Who knew biblical times were so decadent (not to mention ruthless, carnal and violent)? Well, most people, actually. But did you know it was possible to proudly proclaim your love for a same-sex partner then? Didn't think so. The Jesus Metropolitan Church didn't think you did, either, but they're getting out the Good Word in a big way all around Indianapolis, Indiana with billboards proclaiming that Jesus affirmed a gay couple, David loved Jonathan "more than women" and three more fun facts. Even better than the billboards themselves is the fact that each one cites sources—biblical sources, no less! And you know what that means: it has to be true.
Being a gay man who happens to be Christian I still find it sad that too often things are taken out of context in order to try to appeal to or approve of something like being gay to the general population.
Honestly there is very little evidence from a biblical, anthropological, or historical approach that leads one to believe that Ruth or Naomi, David or Jonathon, Centurion and his slave etc had any "gay" thing going on.
This even deepens the divide with rhetoric that honestly does not help Christian gay men and lesbians or that fact the gay community in general. As many will probably say just revisionist thinking that is trying to prove themselves and their broken whims and desires. And then what is the difference with the "love won out" conference billboards put on by Focus on the Family saying, " I Questioned Homosexuality, Change is Possible, Discover How" just two sides of the same sexuality coin being marketed. Yet I know both will get some interest, some hate, some protest. Will the church ever learn whether affirming or not? Let's get over it and get on with life and living it to the fullest we will all know anyway in the end.
Why anyone would want to be labeled a "Christian" is beyond me. It's a cult that uses fear to control people -- plain and simple. If you are GLBT and feel the need to be religous to help you fit in better with your society --turn your energy inward as it would be a better use of your time than bothering with an out of date cult. Who gives a FUCK what a book of fiction says or doesn't say about Gays. IF we are to start considering fiction writing as impactful to our lives then lets consider what ALL writing (for that mater in this day and age what all media) has to say about us and ours. All GLBTer's should feel it in there DNA that we have always been here and always will be here.
