451Press blog LezKeepItReal interviewed Christopher Chan on his a unique coming out experience. Chan, you see, did one better than declaring his sexuality to the extended family over Thanksgiving dinner—that kind of stuff is child's play to this generation—no; Chan came out to billions of people on YouTube.
This isn't the first time we've heard of someone coming out via video, but it is the first time we've read a follow-up to someone's video. Chan says after posting the video, his relationship with his mother "improved drastically. Although she doesn’t trust me."
Good for you man! Keep on truckin!
Who wouldn't know he was gay?
Is his entire family blind and deaf?
now now, karen. just because someone is lispy, effeminate, and melodramatic doesn't mean .... oh wait ... yes, it does. haha
Anyone can post a video on you-tube. That's easy. It's more detached and 'after-the-fact' than, say, a phone call or even a face-to-face conversation.
Not everyone, however, can confront parents and friends face-to-fac and out themselves in an eloquent and articulate manner. That takes major balls.
Doing both is a sweet deal, though.
He states that he feels more accepted in the gay community--oh poor child. Wait till you get your first dose of racism and body fascism in the gay community, then we'll talk.
I do hope there are some queer Asians in his support network when this happens.
The moment somebody describes a textbook as "hideous," my gaydar pings. ;-)
Seriously, though, best of luck to the boy! Coming out is never simple, but it does make life so much better.
