Rabbi Says Hurricane Sandy Was God’s Wrath Against Gay Marriage

An orthodox rabbi is jumping on the bigotry bandwagon and claiming the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy is “divine justice” for New York State passing marriage equality last year.

Guess God’s been too busy for the past 16 months, huh?

In a radio chat about same-sex marriage with nutball New York Senate candidate Neil DiCarlo, Rabbi Noson Leiter claimed there was “great theological implications” to Sandy and reminded listeners that “the Great Flood in the time of Noah was… triggered by the recognition of same-gender marriages.”

Funny, we don’t remember hearing that in Sunday School. But we do remember the story about Noah getting drunk and passing out naked in his tent. Love those Bible stories!

Leiter, head of Torah Jews for Decency, admits God promised not to bring another flood to wipe out the planet, but said He “could punish particular areas with a flood.” Leiter also called Manhattan, one of the city’s hardest hit areas, as “one of the national centers of homosexuality.”

But New Jersey, which was even more devastated than New York, doesn’t have marriage equality. So what gives? Was the Lord punishing the Garden State for Snookie?
