Gay marriage hits the Hawkeye State on Monday, becoming the third state — after Massachusetts on Nov. 18, 2003, and Connecticut on Oct. 10, 2008 — to recognize true equal rights. (Vermont is next, beginning Sept. 1.) Same-sex marriage was supposed to become legal on Friday based on the Iowa Supreme Court’s “get it done in 21 days” ruling, but budget cuts meant closed government offices that day. We’ll be covering the city hall festivities all day tomorrow as they come in! Are you getting gay married in Iowa on Monday? Send your stories (and photos!) to us at [email protected]. Just make sure the person you want to perform your ceremony is willing to do it.

Someone please record the huge convoy of gays in cars traveling from Omaha to Council Bluffs to get hitched.
I can just see the headlines now: Gay Couple Arrives in Des Moines “International” Airport Wearing “I Shuck Corn” Shirts While Arguing The Cultural Relevance of Davey Wavey.

Do you know what the biggest disappointment about gay marriage is? I’ll tell you. The biggest disappointment about gay marriage is that it is a truly uneventful happening. Two guys, or two gals, that nobody knows signs a marriage contract and goes home. It is the religious zealots who act like they’ve been shot in the leg, who put on the most magnificent spectacle.
However, we must guard against them. They’re un-natural obsession with gay life is fierce, and reckless. They must be treated to their own brand of poison. We must vote on their marriage rights, the religious zealots, if they are allowed to vote on ours.

@Flex:
It’s my secret fantasy to put an initiative on the CA ballot that states that the LDS and Catholic churches cannot be tax exempt in the state.
