Remembering August Provost

THE SHOT — A candlelight vigil held this weekend for August Provost, the slain Navy sailor killed on base in what many suspect to be a hate crime.

ALSO: U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee joins other politicos in calling for a full investigation.

There is a danger to us all when we (as a community) let tragedies like this slide.

How sad. We have a murdered gay member of the Armed forces who was shot five times and burned and only one comment about it. BUT if Paris Hilton’s vagina happens to fart on Rodeo Drive…everyone and their dead grandma has a comment about it. No wonder the interest in gay organiztions and events is so tainted and meaningless.

It was an honor to be part of a group of people who had to join for this sad occasion. My heart goes out to the family of August Provost and those hurt by the loss of his light in the world.

Do not forget August, nor those who have been lost before him. Mankind has come a long way with equality for those treated unjustly. Soon the rights of so many will be the rights of ALL.

@DAVE:Haven’t you noticed the trend on Queerty? If it ain’t white, then they stay quiet. Here is a BLACK guy who paid the ultimate price for being gay. And how many posted comments supporting him? A measly FOUR, including mine! But wait till next time they dig up something bad that the black community did. Then it will be a 1001 postings defining all sorts of things, except one–that they are fucking racists!

You’re right about the lack of posts on this thread…guilty myself, tho I’ve commented on other Provost threads. Everybody wants to bitch about DADT, but no one can acknowledge this tragedy?

Thanks to Queerty for covering this, and to prove the site can have merit. Threads like this may not have the high post count of an Obama bashing rant, but consider it earning ‘good karma points’ for covering topics that should be covered.

Said it b4, and I’ll say it again…this is a bullshit military attempt at a cover-up. Hope the local pols have the balls to demand the truth, and to stand up to the lying sons-of-bitches in our military.

Nope! August was killed because he stopped a guy and his non military cousin from coming on base. The one guy had been resently speaking about burning a hovercraft.

My friend August wouldn’t let them on base and paid the consequences. Please quit reducing his life to a gay/straight issue. He was a sailor first and foremost and was protecting our country!!!

Don’t use my friend for your agenda!! He was and is a hero!!
