He WAS a Cosmo model. Now he’s a recently elected Republican US Senator and his vote to let gays serve openly in the US military is needed and welcome. But who cares about that since he has an R next to his name, right?

The Democrats and Republicans are going to play a trick on us. They may well choose to repeal DADT but leave the “exact timing” up to Robert Gates, the secretary of defense. This isn’t repeal at all. It’s simply a vote to delay repeal.
I urge all in the gay community to put out a red alert on this issue. Obama needs to act to ensure that DADT is repealed right away, otherwise he’s let us down.
Red Meat
@dizzle: There aren’t enough to justify that term.

Be careful, The White House already stripped out the anti-discrimination language from the bill the first time it came up, AND left in provisions that even if Congress repeals it the exact changes and timing are up to the SEc of Defense etc…
So be aware of that. If Congress votes on this, our ultimate win may still be in the court.
That being said, thank you SEnator Brown for ignoring the crazies in your party and voting for this repeal!

That picture makes me wish he were a Log Cabin Republican, if you know what I mean.

Great! Bring back morning goods!!!

he’s looking to be president you know..

Scott Brown never said he would “vote to end DADT.” He said he “supported ending DADT if the military gave assurances about troop readiness, etc.” He is simply playing to his liberal voters.

@jason: Defense Sec. is leaving this coming year. Scott Brown is desperate to keep that seat, but everyone knows that it will be gone in 2012.

The guy is just covering his behind for the next 2 years, a lot of liberals voted for him.
marco
Well good for him.
Also, he looks better now, IMO

I agree Alan, Bring back Morning Goods. I also agree it is probably a trick #3 Jason.
Chip
I heard that he would vote to repeal DADT, but only AFTER the Repubs get their way on taxes.
jon
I’d vote str8 R if they were not so str8 loving.

Not only are the Republicans holding out on DADT, deeming Tax Cuts for the Rich to be their greater priority, but they are also holding out on Fuinding for out Troops as well. Sounds Un-Partiotic to me?
Republicans have just said No! for nearly two years now, they just have a few more weeks, and they know this.
Brown, if he wants top be seriously considered as Presidential material, should really take the lead on this issue, and re-Brand the Republican Party, showing that he will not pander like Palin to the extremeists of the Old Man’s Republican Party, but to moderates within and outside of the Party. This would resurrect the dieing Republican Party, showing him to be a true Representative of the American People.
This ONE ACT might allow him to take Obama, IMHGO.

Yeah, keep moving those goal posts. It took several years to achieve 95% racial integration. Allowing open service should be far less complex because there aren’t segregated gay-only brigades as there were for race, but there might be some procedures they want to iron out first. But according to you, if the Senate doesn’t simply flip a switch and say, “OK, everybody come out now,” Obama has failed again. There’s just nothing he can realistically do to make you happy.

@Brutus – There’s a lot Obama could do, starting with making more than a half-assed effort on DADT. That of course is a half an ass more of an effort than he’s made on DOMA and ENDA. He over-promised and under-delivered and he’s suffering the consequences. He has no one to blame but himself.

Brutus – Wasn’t there an article right here on Queerty a month ago (sorry I don’t remember the exact details) against the administration and ordered equal benefits for the military person’s same sex (female) partner and Obama’s administration appealed? Why? They could have just as easily said to their opponents: “well folks, we made a good case and lost, it is not effiecient for us to continue to appeal this” and let it go. And a couple months ago some lawyer in his administration made that absolutely foul statement comparing us to pedophiles or bestiality or something. Point is he is NOT being the fierce advocate but considering some of the stuff that has gone on, which I’ve only pointed out some oh yeah, don’t forget Rick Perry the minister at the inauguration…….anyway, I’d settle for neutral.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
@Jaroslaw: One of lifes great mysteries the demise of morning wood!………..
I find it really strange, Queerty is based on a revenue model where they need as many as possible to attract advertisers. Them eliminating their largest click generator and if you notice there are no more banner ads does not bode well for the site………..But as usual when one sends an email to ask the staff for info it is ignored………….Don’t be suprised if you click on Queerty soon and find nothing…….

@Justin @Brutus I can only hope hundreds, no thousands, of GLBT people read your comments. You both expose exactly what is happening, If Obama doesn’t act to see that the repeal of DADT is carried out, it will be his ultimate betrayal of our community.
