In light of recent discriminatory dinner (or hungover breakfast) donations, the gold standard of bachelor delivery has had its gooey name sullied. But one group is trying to change all that.
Religious freedom Inequality lovers Crystal and Kevin O’Connor of Indiana’s Memories Pizza have raised $842,592 after they said they’d turn away business based on their feelings about LGBT people. A campaign called #Pizza4Equality is now underway to restore pizza’s good name while raising cash for Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund benefitting homeless LGBT youth.
Supporters are asked to donate the cost of one pizza in their area (though larger donations are welcomed) in an effort to match the unsettling $842,592 raised by Memories. As of this post, a respectable $47,097 has been reached.
The campaign’s creator, Scott Wooledge, writes:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund has set April 29 as the first national #40toNoneDay to end #LGBT youth homelessness! And I thought, would it not be totally awesome if we equality supporters (and pizza lovers) could match that #MemoriesPizza “charity” by April 29? Can we match their amount and help homeless youth get off the street, learn life skills and get an education and jobs? I’m an dreamer, but I say yes, we can!

The over $800,000 raised for the bigots is said to have come from just a few sources. This makes it appear they have more support than in reality.
As far as the reputation of pizza, I doubt it would be damaged by a shitty pizza restaurant that was probably already failing.
This fundraiser to actually benefit homeless youth is noble and just.

Done and done! I really, truly hope it surpasses the amount raked in by these two bigots.

Let’s do it – I’m in!

I have shared the fundraiser on all of my Facebook pages and hope that will generate the needed funds.
Regarding the ‘pizza parlor’. They never did cater, and most likely never will.

What assholes they did this on purpose !!! They were failing in the pizza company and probably had been behind on bills and they found a way to get FREE money so they did that .. What assholes they should take the money they already raised and give it to the fundraiser to actually benefit homeless youth is noble and just. But of course they won’t do that because they have more money now and it’s all FREE . So screw the LGBT and they were in the wrong to start. We should go and picket the store and see how much business they would get then ?

Maybe Crystal and Kevin O’Connor should open up a Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza franchise

It is pretty sad that “Christians” are more willing to give money to a business for hypothetically discriminating than they are to causes that combat homelessness. If only Jesus had spoken to one of these issues over another, we would know what the Christina thing to do is…

Every one needs get involved in this. :)’s

Wouldn’t that be funny if we raised more money than the bigots did for that pizza place?

I just made my donation. It took a couple times but they have raised over $70,000 as of now by more than 1900 people.

@Giancarlo85: You should probably read the news before making inaccurate statements. They received donations from over 30,000 individuals. That being said, I just made my donation to True Colors.
Giancarlo85
@aliengod: And so they say. How do we really know it is from 30,000 individuals? Do they disclose all the names? For all we know it was done under aliases and this is all a publicity stunt. Stupid ass.

Where are you getting your information from? Could you document your source(s)? Thanks!

Sounds like you guys want facts, but you should realize that some QUEERTY readers still prefer their own uninformed opinions over empirical evidence.

EXCUSE US! but why is it not ok to set up a ‘fund me’ site for a private business that Queerty does not like and it is ok for Queerty to promote a ‘fund me’ site for a group that it does like? Is the standard only ‘what you like and don’t like’? The point is this: why did Queerty make a story at all about either site? And why is Queerty highlighting a single site it likes in this regard but is not highlighting the hundreds – or thousands – of other ‘fund me’ site that are doing the same work or BETTER WORK than the Lauper site? Please answer this issue of Queerty policy.

We should lay off them. I’m gay and very discriminatory towards those who wear fur and those who hunt. I wont serve them or avoid serving them in my place of work or I look down at them. The LGBT community is very discriminatory esp to other members of the LGBT community. Lets stop being hypocrites.

Donations were also received from the gay community, to help relieve the financial loss endured by the proprietors’ stand for faith.

Courtney Hoffman:
“As a member of the gay community, I would like to apologize for the mean spirited attacks on you and your business. I know many gay individuals who fully support your right to stand up for your beliefs and run your business according to those beliefs. We are outraged at the level of hate and intolerance that has been directed at you and I sincerely hope that you are able to rebuild.”
Buz Smith also donated:
“My partner and I have been together almost 27 years. The Democratic Leadership hi-jacked the Gay community many years ago and continue to spew the intolerance of religion as they promote the tolerances of their choices. This is one big community organized ploy with the media to do harm to people with religious convictions, conservatives, capitalism on and on. Love Peace and Happiness to the Family!!!!”
The GoFundMe page, with the modest goal of $25k, was to help the family stave off the burdensome cost of having the media parked out front, activists tearing them down, and no customers coming in. The goal was simply to help take one thing off this family’s plate as the strangers sought to destroy them.
No one was turned away. No one was discriminated against. It was a hypothetical question asked by a news reporter who had questionable motives to begin with.
