Democrat Bill Richardson dissed the Boy Scouts of America last night. During a debate with fellow presidential candidates, Richardson said he would not take a symbolic Scout seat because the organization discriminates against gays.
Gov. Bill Richardson said Wednesday night that he is if elected president he would refuse to accept the position of Honorary Chair of the Boy Scouts of America because of Scouting’s ban on gays.
…
“No, I wouldn’t, because I think as president I would commit myself, number one, that I will be a leader that prevents discrimination on the basis of race, gender and sexual orientation,” he said.
The Scouts, of course, don’t accept openly gay leaders. Nor do they have a place for atheists. Good thing most of them can’t vote…

Hmmm…Bill Richardson wasn’t even on my radar until now.

If Hillary’s elected, do they offer to make her honorary chair? Or does she just have to to sell cookies?

Where does all this nonsense come from – That the Boy Scouts & Cub Scouts membership is down AS A RESULT OF BSA MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS? Sorry, “Mr. Bill” – you won;t get my vote.
Is the Boy Scouts of America’s membership requirement SO STRONG, SO PERVASIVE that, as a result of the BOY SCOUTS membership requirement, the GIRL SCOUTS membership in the past 4 years (according to the GIRL SCOUTS annual reports) are down 250,000 kids?
Is the Boy Scouts of America’s membership requirement SO STRONG, SO PERVASIVE that, as a result of the BOY SCOUTS membership requirement, Campfire is actually closoing down in some areas of the country?
Be serious – It has NOTHING to do with the BOY SCOUTS membership requirements!
(Anecdotally – membership numbers MAY be dropping in all youth programs because we parents are seeing just how many perverts are out there trying to get access to our children!)
