Ricky Martin Inspired Mexican Soap Star Sebastian Ligarde To Come Out As Gay

SEBASTIAN-LIGARDESebastian Ligarde, well-known to Spanish-speaking TV viewers for his villainous role in the popular telenovela Quinceañera, has come out publicly as gay. The 59-year-old actor revealed it was fellow Latin entertainer Ricky Martin who inspired the decision.

“I believe I’m at an age when I can help new values… and to have the courage to accept myself publicly, as Ricky Martin did,” Ligarde told Mexico’s TVyNovelas magazine. “He has been an inspiration for me when it comes to talking about this subject.”

Ligarde also revealed he’s been in a stable relationship for more than two decades.

“I’m gay and I say this with pride,” he said. “No gay person should have to walk down the street with stigma stamped on his forehead. Sexual preference is genetic… and if God and my family knows it, then let the world know it.
