Rufus Wainwright’s Literary Project

Rufus Wainwright, who now wants to get gay married to his partner Jorn WeisBrodt, after declaring a couple years ago he didn’t much care for the whole ordeal, has more than activism on his plate. He’s also working on composing a little evening with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra — full of sonnets! He’s pulling a few of Shakespeare’s best off his record All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu, and composing a few new ones. “I knew a little bit about the sonnets, but I’d never immersed myself in them before, and I really did for this project,” Wainwright tells Billboard. “Once you dip into that stream you’re pretty much rushed down the river by the beauty of it all. There is an innate musicality within the vowels and the consonants and the spaces and so forth. My life changed after the sonnet, so I thought it was necessary to present that new addition to my lexicon.” Oh just coo that iambic pentameter into our ear …

AND, he just lost his mom– who was a wonderful Folk singer and social activist. This guy has some work ethic that I can only admire.

Agree about the album. His UK tour starts next week. The day after his opera, Prima Donna, premieres in London. We are expecting something very special.
