Happy birthday RuPaul!
November 17, 1960, a baby was born that would soon change the world. His name was RuPaul Charles…
This little baby grew and grew…
And evolved…
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Then, in the 80s, RuPaul began creating films and music…
And in 1989 he received his first major national exposure with his dancing role in The B-52s’ ‘Love Shack’ music video….
Then, in the early 90s, daytime television met some club kids on ‘Geraldo’…
In 1992, the world went crazy as RuPaul’s single ‘Supermodel (You Better Work)’ climbed the Billboard charts…
And so came his first album, ‘Supermodel of the World,’ in 1993…
The success of his music led to more national exposure. In 1993, he presented an award with Milton Berle at the MTV Video Music Awards…
It was at this same awards show that he met Kurt Cobain, Nirvana and Courtney Love…
The next year, 1994, he became the face of the first ever MAC Viva Glam campaign…
And in 1995, Ru starred in a feature-length film called ‘Wigstock: The Movie’…
That same year, he released his first autobiography, ‘Lettin It All Hang Out’…
…and climbed the UK Singles Chart alongside Elton John…
Then, in 1996, RuPaul took over television with ‘The RuPaul Show’…
…and took over the morning airwaves of the WKTU radio station in New York alongside gal pal Michelle Visage…
He also released his second album, ‘Foxy Lady,’ in 1996…
And then released his third album, ‘Ho, Ho, Ho,’ in 1997, and Christmas would always be glamorous…
That same year, rainy days we’re no longer a drag…
After sitting quiet for a bit, RuPaul reappeared in 2004 with his fourth album, ‘Red Hot’…
Then released his fifth album, ‘ReWorked,’ in 2006…
In 2007, the world was re-introduced to RuPaul as ‘Starrbooty’…
…and, of course, the film had to have a soundtrack CD…
In 2009, with the premier of his reality competition show, ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ cable television and the art of drag queen entertainment would never be the same…
That same year, his sixth album, ‘Champion,’ was released…
The following year, in 2010, Ru released his second autobiography, ‘Workin’ It! RuPaul’s Guide to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness’…
…and debuted his first ‘Drag Race’ spin-off series, ‘RuPaul’s Drag U’…
More music came in 2011 when Ru dropped his seventh album, ‘Glamazon’…
And who could forget the joy (and anger) we all felt when the second spin-off, ‘RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race,’ premiered in 2012…
In 2013, the world never smelled the same following his ‘Glamazon’ unisex perfume release (in partnership with ColorEvolution)…
Last year, RuPaul’s eighth album, ‘Born Naked,’ dropped…
…and, alongside Michelle Visage, his first podcast, ‘What’s The Tee?’ was born…
And in November 2015, her new Christmas album dropped. (Now available on iTune *wink*)
RuPaul has released nine albums and two books, has had his own television shows and a band, has done radio and a podcast with Michelle Visage, has performed around the world, has starred in movies, television shows and short films, and so, so, so much more! We can’t wait to see what the world’s most famous drag queen does next! Happy birthday mama Ru!

RuPaul is amazing! I have followed Ru since 1992 when Supermodel video came on MTV. Since then I watched him on the MTV awards, his own talk show on VH1, his cameos in The Brady Bunch, Very Brady Sequel, and Too Wong Fu movies. I always play his Christmas CD in my car every Christmas season, and of course I’ve watched every Drag Race, Drag U, and All Stars episodes. I love Ru so much and he has made life so much better!
