A lot of us expected Shangela to pop out of the box in Monday’s episode of RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race. Heck, some of the contestants were looking under seat cushions for the irrepressible imp, born DJ Pierce. The “halleloo!” girl got sent home in the first episode of Season 2, but made enough of an impression to be invited back for Season 3 (when she lasted substantially longer).
Losing out on Drag Race stardom hasn’t stalled Shangela Laquifa Wadley’s career—she’s since appeared on TV shows like Community and 2 Broke Girls, enthralled the Internets with her web series Jennifer Lewis and Shangela, and just tackled Manhattan with “Laquifa is Halleloosing It,” her one-woman show at XL Cabaret. “Laquifa is my country-loud no-holds-barred inner pimp ho character,” Shangela says of her alternate persona.
With the small screen, the Web and the Big Apple crossed off her bucket list, what’s next for this dashing diva? “My dream destination would be Brazil! I think Sao Paulo would love some “halleloo!”
Are you upset about not being chosen for RuPaul’s All-Stars Drag Race?
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Not at all. This is my third year performing in drag—I couldn’t be happier with all I’ve accomplished thus far. I love sharing this journey with my fans and I’m super excited for my sisters on All Stars.
Can we expect to see you pop up during this season?
You never know where I’m gonna pop up. No box is safe!
Who do you think will win All Stars?
There are some awesome competitors, so the title will go to whoever brings it the fiercest on the runway and in the challenges.
Who do you think will be the first to be sent home?
I dunno—and I usually know a lot about being the first to go!
Drag is very different now than it was 20 years ago. Where do you think drag will be in 20 years?
It’s ever changing. But Ru will still be around—and I’ll still be jumping out of boxes at the senior center!
Shangela will appear on the Drag Race at Sea Cruise on December 2. For other tour dates, visit Shangela.com. And tune in to RuPaul’s All Star Drag Queens Mondays at 9pm.

Irrepressible? You mean like a bad case of the herpes?

Ugh, I get the idea that the producers thought she was fun to have on the show. She was so irritating that I actually stopped watching until somebody told me she went home, then I caught up on the episodes after.
As for that interview, she basically answered none of the questions…still irritating I see.

Like thousands of other people, I love Shangela! 🙂
