Oh Lester Brathwaite, you’re having trouble with your pronouns again. Is it just a personal problem you have that causes you not to be able to refer to men with male pronouns? Is it just men that you don’t respect that you choose to refer to with female pronouns to show that lack of respect? All that really does is show your lack of respect for women. Using female pronouns as epithets only show your disregard for females.
·
Really, Lester? Calling him a “her” as a way to insult him? That’s some Boys in the Band $hit right there. Do you think what you did is funny because (a) your mind is stuck in the 50s and you still think gay men are, essentially, just women with dicks? Or men who *want* to be women? Or (b) because you’re a misogynist and you think femininity is inherently insulting?
·
One doesn’t need to call out a dumb fuck by using the anti-gay false gender labeling, does one, Lester?
******
A better refrain would be:
Who the fuck gives a fuck what the fuck this dumb fuck has to fucking say?
See, now isn’t that better, and no anti-gay slurs were used or abused.
·
Calling Ms. Everett as she is isn’t homophobic or anti-woman, it’s making fun of her “oh-so-straight gay” attitude. Haven’t you all met those guys who describe themselves as “straight-acting” and then you meet them and they’re the biggest queens you’ve ever seen? Geez people, camp is our cultural heritage, do some research on your own community.
·
@zaneymcbanes: “…camp is our cultural heritage…”
Mnn, no. Camp was always the province of a small percentage of (mostly educated, mostly urban) gay men. It was a culture created by gay men, but it wasn’t every (or even most) gay men’s culture. Besides, just because a bunch of guys who had no choice but to be in the closet 60 years ago got their kicks pretending they were Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce, doesn’t mean gay men in 2012 have to be happy with being treated as women, or be blind to homophobia and misogyny if it comes wrapped in faux-witty camp.
·
Showing disdain for Rupert Everett by implying he’s femme is 100 percent as bad as his original comments.
Shame.
·
Oh, to hell with guy already. Perfectly good Queerty space you could have spent hunting some new photo sets of Alessandro Calza or Dallas Walker.
·
If he’d just come out with this the first time and just gone with “marriage and raising children is not for me”, no one would have begrudged him and he wouldn’t come across as the bitter idiot he kinda is.
·
Congratulations! I still stand by my comments that I think bad plastic surgery is WAY worse than being raised by two gay dads. What a fucking ass-shat!
·
I think his years as a rent boy made him bitter toward anything that might even hint and assimilation. Everett has long made such thoughtlessly superlative comments throughout his time in the public eye and they’re usually angry and sad.
·
@Niall: Amen, sistah! (I put that in for all the kids worked up about demeaning Everett w/ a female pronoun- nothin’ against women, btw, although they do get slighted in the slam)
Aaaaanyway…. I read it somewhere & apologize for not being able to say who/where, but essentially on Everett, What he means to say is, ‘I too would be horrified to have 2 dads as selfish, & idiotic as am I.’
We must concede… on that he definitely has a point.
·
Get off it and stop being such a drama queen, it was funny.
·
and “queen” was not intentional, but the shoe does fit, you do seem to be a bitter old queen if you are complaining about Lester’s comment
·
Meh. Everett hasn’t been relevant in at least a decade, and the next time someone insists that he can’t play a role because he’s queer, we should just leave him twisting in the wind.
·
Vile self-loathing lowlife and former (?) whore.
