EQUALITY ANTHEMS

“Same Love” Singer Mary Lambert Debuts New Music Video, “She Keeps Me Warm”

It’s been quite a week for Mary Lambert!

Before snagging a VMA for her collaboration with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on the marriage equality anthem “Same Love”, the Seattle-based singer released her first video for “She Keeps Me Warm,” an extension of her work with Macklemore.

The video sports a charming storyline between Lambert, an out lesbian, and an adorable female barista. “It is a pure love song meant for all people,” she says, “intending not to exploit or provide shock value, but to paint a graceful and powerful romantic picture.” Isn’t she the best?

The singer told the Seattle Times earlier this year that her collaboration with Macklemore was born after she received a call from Hollis Wong-Wear, the producer of Macklemore’s latest album The Heist. She says before her poetic hook was written, “Same Love” originally sampled Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out” as the bridge.

“I went home and flipped out,” Lambert said. “My whole life was hinging on this moment.” She says she wrote the hook you’ve grown to love in a matter of hours and the rest, as they say, is history.
