Santorum: Ousting Pro-Equality Judge Could Reverse Iowa’s Marriage Equality Law

Here’s another reason we’re glad Rick Santorum didn’t make it to the White House: He’s not so clear on the whole judicial process. The failed presidential candidate suggested at a recent rally that voting out Iowa Supreme Court Justice David Wiggins could lead to reversing the decision Wiggins was a part of that lead to marriage equality in the state.

“Now you have an opportunity to tip the balance with a fourth justice and an opportunity to even reverse this horrific decision,” said Santorum, speaking at a “No Wiggins” bus tour stop. (Yep, they have a bus tour just to oust this one judge based on one decision that has zero impact on their lives.)   .

However, as On Top magazine points out, there’s currently no case challenging the Iowa Supreme Court’s 2009 decision— and 56% of Iowans oppose an amendment banning gay marriage.

But hey, dream big, Rick!

Then again, we shouldn’t be so glib: These mouthbreathers already managed to unseat three of the judges who were part of that unanimous Supreme Court decision.

Below, check out the “No Wiggins” ad that was launched last week.
