Does Sarah Palin’s retweeting of conservative lesbian pundit Tammy Bruce’s criticism of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell count as agreeing with her position? Or merely highlighting it? Twitter etiquette can be hard! “But this hypocrisy is just truly too much,” tweeted Bruce, which Palin (or whoever is manhandling her Twitter account) pressed a button to shoot out verbatim to her 350,000 followers. “Enuf already–the more someone complains about the homos the more we should look under their bed.” Maybe she was just retweeting it because she liked the word “enuf.” But Bruce certainly thinks the retweet is the same thing as an endorsement: “I think @SarahPalinUSA RT my tweet is her first comment on DADT, treatment of gays & attempts to marginalize us–thank you Governor.” Um, it’s pronounced “thank you President.”

If this is indeed genuine support by Palin for gay rights it could be a potential boon for her chances of getting elected given that there are a lot of gays just itching to find a reason to support her. Thank goodness I’m not one of them!

@Christopher: Love of Palin and hatred of Obama = imaginary. Obama’s at 50% now and Sarah Palin has steadily LOST popularity since her first introduction on the national stage. Gays, by and large, support the job the president is doing. It’s only in certain circles that gays seem to hold the president accountable for everything they’d never dare to pin on the Clintons and other let-downs. The president is not a perfect ally, but he’s an ally, and even pre-DADT repeal, his standing among gay voters (according to a poll leaked over the weekend) has remained strong. Doesn’t mean we should ease up on holding him to his promises, but that’s reality.

Palin isn’t going to be able to be pro-gay squat if she actually does run for President because she’ll have to pivot Right enough to push Huckabee out of the spotlight (much less Gingrich and/or maybe Pence- who now looks to want to run for Governor of Indiana instead.)
So whatever kudos she’ll get from GOProud for a half-second will quickly go away once the GOP primaries start getting closer.
We’re looking at one more major national election cycle before the GOP will be able to shake off enough of the faith-based, conservative neck-hold they’ve allowed themselves to get into and be able to appeal to a more moderate-lite base of voters (i.e. those LGBT’ers who think their tax rate is more important than their ability to get married or discriminated against.)
