Scott Herman is an easy guy to love, and not just because his YouTube fitness videos can be used for things other than exercise. Mostly, the Real World: Brooklyn alum has been busy teaching heterosexual Americans that gays are cool folks.
In a lengthy interview with Wicked Gay Blog (click the link for part two), Scott revisits his entire pre-Real World history, like how he was always focused on protecting the gay kids in school persecuted by bullies. We’ve very easily jaded by heterosexuals trying to be our BFFs; Scott, however, is the real deal.
Too bad, then, that the actor-hopeful’s dream of being Captain America have just been shattered: The Office‘s not-so-buff John Krasinski is expected to score the role.
Josh
Why does he support Republicans if he is a gay affirming straight man?
He likes gays but supports those that take away or block equal rights for gays???
fredo777
@Josh: to be fair, some actual gay persons are republican.
delurker
What Republican does he support? I am sorry but I am not watching the whole damn thing. He’s insipid and his accent grates.
Scott Herman
My Republican views have mostly to do with Small Businesses and the allocation of money.
But then again… my views are all over the board.. not sure what you would call me… I guess someone who seeks out justice is the best. 🙂

@ScottHerman
Yeah I can see that. I’m gay myself but fiscally pretty conservative. Though I don’t state a political party, I do agree with a lot of Republican fiscal policies and want equal protection and rights for people of all races/sexualities. I know plenty of Republicans who fight FOR gay rights too. I think the whole Republican = Gay Basher thing is definitely a bit of a stereotype that doesn’t necessarily fit a lot of the time.

With that ass and those lips? He can my ally anytime. Hubba hubba!

@tehprotectorz: Hey, system administrators, can someone delete that comment i made up here ^^^. I’m dumb and didn’t know how to reply to another post :\ haha
Republican
Scott Herman is a great guy and a friend of us gays.
fredo777
@delurker: Uncalled for + I disagree.
Mike L.
He’d be perfect as he is now physically/youthwise too, Had Ultimate Marvel’s Jimmy Hudson (wolverine’s son from that alt universe) were as popular as his father is. Unfortunately He’s only been in his first introductory issue.
Also on the republican thing and fiscal responsibility, Uh didn’t Reagan, Bush sr and recently Bush jr leave us with a large national deficit then the Dems came in and made that go away for the next Republican Pres to mess it up again? (It’s still to be seen with Obama of course).
MuscleBoy
Another fracking media whore.
delurker
@fredo777: Hey, if you can stand to hear someone blather on with inanities for 20+ minutes, you are a stronger man than I.
At least Davey Wavey doffs his shirt and keeps it under 4 minutes (usually)!
tjr101
@Mike L.:
Exactly, I can’t understand how people who are otherwise socially liberal keep saying they’re Republican or vote that way because of the party’s stand on fiscal issues.
History clearly shows that the GOP is no more fiscally conservative than the Democrats. Republicans screw things up big time. Some gays vote Republican and get neither fiscal conservatism or any sort of gay rights in return.
Well, the very rich ones get their tax cut.
Joshua
SO i watched the whole thing and tragically, my poor 19-yr-old self has gotten yet another HUGE gay crush on a straight boy… sigh. But seriously, the guy is enlightened, open-minded, (charming as hell) and couldn’t be a better friend to the gay community! Thanks Scott =D
blackball
@muscleboy
totally !
fredo777
@delurker: It’s a clip from some guy’s YouTube channel. Were you expecting a profound monologue?
delurker
@fredo777: er, no. i wasn’t expecting 40 mins of interminable blah, blah, blah…

Ryan
I don’t have a problem with people who are fiscally conservative, though the GOP isn’t fiscally conservative, so that hardly seems like a reason to vote for them. The majority of Republicans are anti-gay to some degree; that’s a fact proven by polls over and over again. I can see why a pro-equality heterosexual or gay man wouldn’t want to vote Democrat. I can’t see how they can vote Republican, though, and still call themselves pro-equality. if the Democrats hadn’t swept the last two elections, Massachusetts would still be the only state in the union with gay marriage, and repealing DADT would not even be discussed.
chris
John Krasiniski is gonna be captain America?
For the love of God, why?
Kevin B
Obama doesn’t support gay marriage either. Wake up.
Ryan
I’m sorry, the fact that Obama doesn’t support gay marriage doesnt mean Republicans and Democrats are equivalent on gay rights. Talk about needing to wake up! What a lame rebuttal. And since this post is about Scott, I should say I think you’re a great guy, and thanks for your support.
MeDontGetIt
This himbo is way too much in love with himself. And gay ally? Of course, because he participated in a campaign that raises his public profile! He wanted to be in the category of real celebrities. Nah, don’t buy it.
OompaLoompa
@benlayvey: Sorry, but he’s a closeted queen.
Joe
@OompaLoompa:
Thank You OomPALOOMPA for stating that!
Come out Scott!…Please.
The only reason he’s hiding in the closet still is
for the $$ bucks!
delurker
I’ve said once and I’ll say it again, gay Republicans are people who love tax cuts more than anything else. As others have pointed out, Republicans don’t care about the deficit or spending when they are actually in power. “Fiscal conservatism” is an oxymoron. Reagan and Bush both ballooned the deficits with tax cuts and massive spending. One is saint in Republican circles and the other is rehabing his image is achieve sainthood.
Lucas
Scott is too cool for school. And a hell of a guy to boot, wish I knew him personally.
Yo
@chris: That’s what I got out of the article too. Hollywood is crazy.
Kevin B
@Ryan:
Yes, Ryan, you’re correct that dems and repubs are not equivalant on gay rights but that doesn’t change the fact that dems don’t have it totally together. So to spite this guy for supporting Republicans is what is TRULEY lame. You, like every other gay has been misled into thinking that voting democrat is some big triumph. It’s not. YOU ALL VOTED FOR SOMEONE THAT DOES NOT SUPPORT YOU. It’s amazing that any gay who voted for Obama can turn around and give this guy shit. Learn how to start thinking, please.
delurker
WTF? I like Krasinski.
Chris Porter
Love you Scott, you’re extremely beautiful, I love your attitude and if you’re ever passing by Michigan you can bunk with me. Just sayin.
tjr101
@Kevin B:
“YOU ALL VOTED FOR SOMEONE THAT DOES NOT SUPPORT YOU.”
Please clarify? Last I checked Obama was the one who signed the Matthew Sheperd Act into law and DADT repeal is working its way through congress.
How’s Log Cabin and GOProud working for you?
sal(the original)
ha Scott republicans are good with money?when?!and to the log cabin republicans try a better excuse for your stupidity, of the republicans will not stab you in the back they would stab u in the front and say your gay ass deserved it
delurker
@tjr101: “Last I checked Obama was the one who signed the Matthew Sheperd Act into law and DADT repeal is working its way through congress.”
Both of which President (sic) McCain does not support.
shiyo
Just because you support a few individual Republicans does not mean you support the party’s entire platform. Unfortunately, American has only two parties, both with very broad platforms that contain many views on diverse subjects. But most Americans cannot fall into one category or the other; I am a Dem for mostly social reasons but certainly not all my views fall in line with the official party platform. I privilege the social aspect because I do not believe either party is capable of being particularly effective regarding the economy – it depends on too many nongovernmental factors, not least of all the global economy, our failing education system, our ridiculous debts and profligate individual spending, the structure of the labor market, innovation, and so on. The only thing the government really does affect are our taxes – but we are so in debt that we will have to pay the piper anyways.
There are gay-friendly Republicans out there, and less-than-gay-friendly Democrats – but I think it’s undeniable that the voice of the Republican party has become dominated by the homophobic religious right; certainly they get most of the attention. Unfortunately their threat silences the gay-friendly Republican politicians and may force them to adjust their agenda to placate them. Therefore unless a politician, regardless of party affiliation, has a proven track record of supporting gay rights or at least supports them during his or her campaign, I am rather wary of them.
fredo777
@delurker: it was a clearly spoken statement + if you had any issues understanding what he meant, it seems you’re the one with the problem.
Kevin B
@tjr101:
I have no idea how they are working. I’m not one of them.
Obama does not support gay marriage. Got that? So what, you’re happy he supports some of your rights but not others? He’s half baked at best. My point in all of this is to question people that automatically attack anyone that says they support republicans. It’s a lemming response that the gay community has become way too accustomed to and it has completely hindered us from actually making some real changes. It’s also completely silly to base your entire political beliefs on one topic. Someone can support a party yet not agree with everything they believe in and, in turn, work to make changes in that party.
The real problem? Both parties are a total shit show and it cracks me up anytime anyone from either party makes fun of the other.

Scott Herman saved my life, literally!
I had inadvertently ingested poison and thinking of him allowed me to vomit copiously, saving my life.
I’ll be forever gratefully.
Keep doing what your doing Scott bulimics everywhere rely on you.
