SF Is the best

San Francisco was just named the Best Gay City in the World, followed by Sydney, Australia. SF was chosen because of gay marriage and it’s history of friendliness. NYC came in third. Other cities on the list include Berlin, a fantastic sexy city, and old-school London. Two of my favorite cities in the world, Moscow & Prague, didn’t make the list.

Hmmmm, interesting that the least religious places are the most gay friendly

The most anti-gay are the most religious, and mainly muslim (with the exception of Jamaica)

Oh, I wonder why that would be? Chief sky pixie just doesn’t like gays, does she.

I lived in San Francisco and it had the most wonderful straight people in the world who are more likely to be your neighbor after 3 decades of gentrification and gay deaths from AIDS. I guess it’s all about Gay Marriage which benefit the few, but San Francisco feels like “Old Europe” as far as Gay vibrant cities in America. Sure, it has some good eateries, South of Market and Golden Gate Park but I had way much more fun on the East Coast, especially Washington DC. Even Dallas was more fun. I guess SF is good for people who own cats and buy flowers daily.

And the tittle of the country’s most stressful city goes to: Barack Obama’s Chicago!

Concerning SF I wont dispute nor agree
with the title but if there’s any safety for GLBT’s and for people in general it most likely going to be eroded by its “sanctuary city” status.
What good does it do for any Gay person living in such a city that welcomes, harbors, protects and provides governmental aid to criminals who shouldn’t be in this Country in the first place?

Quite a scary and unsafe place no matter how “friendly” it is towards us.

Tallskin….you use the phrase, “sky-pixie” A LOT.
How do you define “pixie”? I always think of a pixie as a sort of immature elf. But they are earth-creatures. Are you thinking of nixes or seraphs, which are more atmospheric in nature?

“I wonder why that would be? Chief sky pixie just doesn’t like gays, does she.”

Dear Tallskin, haven’t you learned?

In order to be a fervent rabid fanatical and murderous “Chief sky pixie” believer as Jamaicans and most african Americans here in the states one needs to be void of judgment, reasoning and mental evolution. What else really can you expect from them if not to behave in the manner in which they do.

Yeah, Greybat I do use the term sky pixie a lot. Combine the two words “SKY” and “PIXIE” and you get the correct idea that certain people on the planet worship a “a sort of immature elf” in the sky.

Cos the sky pixie they all worship is about as moral as an “immature elf” in the sky. They all call themselves the Abrahamic religions which is very revealing, cos what kind of ethical or moral entity is that to worship??? A thing that tells a man to kill his only son, then when abraham has nearly done it, says No No I was only kidding, go kill that goat instead.

Thing is it’s a sort of total lack of respect from me to refer to them as sky pixie worshippers. Because I don’t have any respect for them, and I have even less respect for gays who worship that entity, cos we’re supposed to be more intelligent than the average.

I rather like the Buddhist idea that there is no creator sky pixie. Buddhism recognises that there are gods, but these are merely very long lived sentient beings like ourselves and some of whom, like jehovah, allah, brahmin etc etc, have fallen into a pit of self-delusion and actually believe that they are creatures worthy of worship.

Well, guys, you ain’t worthy of anything but contempt.

San Francisco is ok in some parts; but the homelessness and poverty can’t be ignored and Australia if for twinks.

Montreal is the best gay city in North America. Gorgeous and clean. You can make-out everywhere and anywhere (not just in the gay village), eat like a queen for nothing and enjoy the joie de vivre. People are lovely and polite.

London is the best in Europe. Everything Montreal has to offer plus some fantastic gay bollywood-themed clubs. Actually there is a club for every style of people/music you could be into.

Moscow & Prague?
both are beautiful – but for gay life?!? sounds like someone’s into bareback twinks in pitch dark underground shame holes. There’s a reason why HIV is spreading like wildfire in Moscow, people: think before you twink :)

So true, Tallskin. I guess a Deity’s worth is measured by the quality of it’s believers.

It is a pretty crap top ten cos Madrid is not mentioned. And I guess the reason London is not Number 1 is that we Brits don;t like to blow our own trumpets, but London is pretty hard to beat as a gay centre – it is certainly the gay capital of Europe.

I discovered the gay scene of Paris this summer and it is very lively, in the medieval area, well worth a visit. The only drawback is the Paris gay scene is on a rather small scale.

As for San Francisco being best gay place, well, when I visited there about 8 years or so ago, it seemed rather sad, tame and past its glory days.

This is just a small anecdote, but we recently had friends visiting Washington DC from Sanfransico and they said they couldn’t believe how Safe and clean DC was compared to SF. I’ll let you all digest that one! i’ve always thought SF had an aura of faded glory and decay about it. It just seems dirtier than Chicago, NYC, DC, etc… I appriciate it for it’s history and it’s mayor but think it’s best days may be behind it.

In my humble opinion, the winner should have clearly been London. There’s simply no other city on earth like it!
I hesitate to call it a “melting pot” like NYC… it’s more of an intriguing mosaic, and gay life is very, very visible.

San Francisco does have its troubles, but it’s still one of the most beautiful and progressive cities in the world, I love it.

I wonder where St. Louis would land? Somewhere between Berlin & Saudi Arabia I guess. Somedays I think it is closer to Berlin, somedays it seems closer to Saudi Arabia.

For decades, San Francisco was largely immune to Southern California’s problems with pollution, immigration, and crime. But it seems like all those problems have moved north and engulfed the Bay Area with a vengeance. Everything that Northern Californians used to dislike about Los Angeles, they now have to deal with in spades.

Illegal immgration. Violent crime. Fiscal mismanagement. Toxic water. Urban sprawl. Poverty. Smog. Traffic. Garbage strikes.

Far from being a viable alternative to the troubles down south, the San Francisco Bay Area seems to have become a sort of “L.A. Lite.”

Chittyshitty-Y Ask Mommy to take you on a Trailsway adventure there (SF) so she can see her KKGay son in action.

Sydney ….NO! Vacationed there last November and got called “homo” and “poof” by complete strangers while I walked down Oxford street…and I am a masculine looking guy. I have been around the world and never have experienced the juvenile, ant-gay bullshit I was subjected to in Sydney.

Also, the entire list is mostly bullshit by someone who hasn’t traveled much. Montreal is BY FAR the gayest city in North America…check out the Black & Blue festival next month. San Francisco ain’t what is used to be, and London is too damn expensive to be much use to the average gay. Paris over London any day.

That list is notable as as the paper with which I wiped my ass. I don’t know about SF but moved to NYC thinking it would be the sophisticated gay harbor thay claim they are! What a bunch of shit! Those motherfucking queens are superficial, bitter, vicious and more bigotted than Pat Robertson! And forget the so called straights–they will curse you out for walking on the same side of the street! Never been to a more unfriendly, cold, bigotted, racist, homophobic town than NYC. Its everywhere-on the streets, trains, buses, you name it! Heck, I have not seen such rampant racism even in the South. All that claim of liberalism is nothing but bullshit! Returned to my state in no time. Incidentally I agree with the other post about Sydney–heard the same shit about there too. And I,like him, do not lisp or swish or whatever that is the code for being “gay”.

Ugh. I think I just threw up a little in my mouth…

Seattle?! Indifference to homosexuality does not equal a great gay city. The only good reason to move to Seattle is if you don’t want any friends. It’s a dreadful, socially bankrupt city.
