SF Mayor Gavin Newsom Giving Up on Governor's Race

The gayest straight mayor America has ever known just dropped his Democratic bid for the governor's mansion. This leaves Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown with a clear shot at the Democratic ticket.

Good luck with that, California. Jerry Brown is just the leader you'll be needing to get you out of the clusterf*ck you're in. /end snark.

San Francisco has become the Loud family (PBS epic 70's TV reality series reference) of the 21st century.

700,000 strong, with a $6.5 billion dollar budget (seriously, I know!) and enough bad habits, poor judgment and dysfunctional relationships to make Liz Taylor and Richard Burton look like a pair of mennonites.

Gavin thought he could swim in that pool and thrust out of the water and into the light of day like Daryl Hannah in Splash.

Fail.

I'm pretty sure Feinstein is still speculating about running, and considering her work with Milk, I think she'd be a fantastic governor 20 years after her first run.

As I live in San Francisco this is disappointing. I guess we could say fcuk you to middle California for being such homophobes.

That's sad. He was a strong supporter plus he was forward-thinking when it came to things like recycling, etc.

Major bummer. Seldom has a politician had the moxie to actually stand by his convictions and do some good in the cesspool of politics. When I voted for him, I admit my hand was pinching my nostrils, hoping he wasn't a secret stinker. Man did he surprise. Sturdy, smart, deliciously articulate and honestly a good guy (perfect no, but that's boring). He's not done, that's for sure. Hoping for something bigger from Newsom.

Thanks for making me feel warm while I freeze in NYC – the Next California (3 Billion in debt!!!) California has always been 2 states to me. It's difficult for Upstaters to get elected Statewide. Newsom should challenge Feinstein for the Senate as she skews too conservative including back in the Milk days. Governor Moonbeam? Well, could be worse. Oh wait, it already is with the Govinator! LA's Mayor? Thanks, Bernie and the Four Horsemen you rode in on!
