Like many, we assumed San Francisco already had a gay mayor—but maybe we were just wishfully thinking about hunky straight ally Gavin Newsom. Turns out candidate Bevan Dufty, seen here in a campaign ad with his daughter Sidney, has a shot at being the City By the Bay’s first out mayor.
Dufty boasts nearly 20 years of political experience, eight as a city supervisor representing the Castro, Glen Park, Noe Valley and Twin Peaks. Elections are November 8, so you SFers don’t forget to vote—and the rest of you send positive vibes his way, man. (That’s what they do out there, right?)
We’re chanting for you, Bevan.

There’s more accomplished people running. I’m not going to vote for someone just because he is gay. I haven’t seen him do much more than just collect free drinks at his buddy Greg Bronstien’s bars.

I have to agree with t2. I’m supporting Dennis Herrera, as the sign in my window, across the street from Dufty’s house, states. In San Francisco, we’re fortunate as a community to have come to a point where we can support candidates who truly represent the well-being of our entire city rather than just our community. If I thought Dufty would be both a competent city-wide leader and attentive to the needs of the gay community, I’d vote for him. In this case, being gay just isn’t enough.

Seriously? Dennis Herrera? If you your just going to vote for the “conservative” you might as well at least go with the gay one! Seriously, what’s the daylight between Duffy and Herrera on proposals to “restructure” businesses taxes and the mission bay gentrification project?! In that match up, you might as well vote with identity politics! I’m not sure who is getting my 1 slot, but I’ll probably vote along with the SF Tenants Union and back John Avalos or just vote to keep Ed Lee!

There is only one true progressive in the race, and that is John Avalos. Dufty sides with big landlords way to often.

So why is Sidney dressed like a boy?

I’ve lived in SF for 22 years, and I’ve never met anyone, gay or straight, who likes Bevan Dufty. He is NOT the one we want representing gay people. He doesn’t represent anyone here. And since you’re into vibes, his are what can only be called creepy.
