If only Vancouver construction worker Shawn Woodward, 37, hadn’t punched Richard Dowrey because the 62-year-old is gay, he’d be serving much less than the six year prison term a judge just handed down. The March 2009 attack at a gay bar was without provocation and included a slew of anti-gay slurs, a judge ruled, and the lack of remorse proved Woodward was a perfect for for the country’s hate crime laws. Dowrey, who was celebrating his retirement, hit the concrete floor and was left with partial amnesia and brain injuries so severe he cannot feed or dress himself. Woodward’s attorneys had asked for just a two-year sentence, since the attack was just a way for him to prove how macho he was.

You can count on the gay talkers to say religion or political ideology is behind this instead of heterosexual prejudices. Gay talkers like Dan Savage, Michelangelo Signorile etc are too cowardly to speak of REALITY because that would mean confronting heterosexuals on their prejudices. The two pillars of heterosexual supremacist thought are that heterosexuality is the only legimate sexuality and heterosexuality is the ideal sexuality. With those attitudes it is no wonder heterosexuals like Shawn Woodward would beat Richard Dowry so severely he no longer can function independently. Almost all anti-gay hate crimes involve a gay person who is older than the attackers.

Personally I think religion is secondary to hetero machismo in gay bashings. Religion may be the icing but hetero higherarchy is the cake. And these guys more than not, can’t stand the fact that deep down, they want to suck cock like bad, and just can’t deal with being that far off out of the norm, which is a lie. Six years is not enough time to serve. This is another outrage. Sentences should reflect the consequences that the victim is left to live with. People are incarcerated with more time for selling drugs.
