She Waited More Than 70 Years to Become a Woman

There are the two lesbians who are celebrating a seventy-year romance. And now a septuagenarian who clocks in as one of the oldest transexuals in America to undergo survery. What makes Renee Ramsey of Philadelphia so special — besides her age? Well for one, she’s a 20-year military vet.

While Renee’s age might effect recovery time, it doesn’t have any effect on qualifying for gender reassignment surgery, relays CBS 3. Which is good news, since Renee waited until the death of her (second) wife to take the plunge.

We wish you the best, Renee!

I’m glad she can be who she wants to be. But at that age, doing that type of surgery, wouldn’t it be dangerous? Anyone have any medical knowledge on this?

I ‘m sure that the doctors performing the surgery would make a good estimation of her bodies ability too endure the surgery and also recover successfully. I worked at one time in an area where they performed Transexual operations, and don’t recall anyone of even nearly that age going for the surgery. They may not go through quit the extents that they can at vaginal reconstruction unless she plans to have sex.
But the surgery isn’ t, I imagine, as detrimental as some of the cardiac/bypass surgeries that they do .

We live in an age where age is not respected as a time of life when one accomplishes things , but rather almost as a waking death. I think that it’s marvelous that se is having a dream come true(i’m sure) and has the heart to accept new challenges. It’s amn established fact that people live an average of six years longer if they are treated not as old incompetant but as full & competent human beings.

My friend Jessica had sex reassignment surgery after age 70 more than 10 years ago. She was in excellent health and they did a complete vaginal constuction. Jessica was completely satisfied and had no complications.
Go for your dreams no matter what your age!

I don’t have any respect for seventy year old gay men who come to terms with their homosexuality and come out (they aren’t gay in my opinion…not even fifty year old gay men, either), and the same applies here. Who cares?

Tank is a laugh a minute.

And the surgery isn’t all of that big of deal in a medical sense, people have been doing this since the 1930s and the techniques are well developed, as long as someone is in good health there are usually no complications.

And Fitz, why a waste of resources? She paid for the surgery herself since almost all insurance carriers refuse to cover the surgery. Who cares?

Good for her!

I kind of wonder what’s the point of news stories like this though, yeah they raise awareness on the issue, BUT they also tend to be like um yeah she’s 70 what’s the point of coming out in such a medium except for attention?

What the heck is wrong with this guy?

He needs psychiatric attention and medication – not cosmetic surgery and a dopey wig.

@youcanthandlethetruth: That is the treatment for Gender Identity Disorder.

You have to go through years of psychiatric care to go through with the process.

Gender Identity Disorder my arse.

This guy is a nutcase and needs treatment.

Pretending that a 70-year old guy was really a woman all his life is just facilitating his lunacy.

What an interesting story! It’s nice to see Renee finally be who she wants to be without shame. It’s sad that it took so long for her to get there, but better late than never, I suppose. She’s all sorts of grandmotherly adorable. :)
