So, Is Maine Gov. John Baldacci Going to Sign That Marriage Bill Or What?

gov-john-baldacci

Gov. John Baldacci’s spokesman David Farmer says the gov won’t decide until the bill reaches his desk. “He is absolutely listening to what people have to say. But at the end of the day, I think it will come down to what he believes is the right thing to do.”

A real “non-answer” if there ever was one…

I’ll boldly predict that Democratic guvs in blue states will either sign or leave these bills alone. I hope.

@Bruno: But if Baldacci “leaves the bill alone”, it will amount to what’s known as a “pocket veto”. Unlike some other states (but like the federal government), Maine apparently requires the Governor’s signature (unless the legislature overrides a veto) for a bill to become law. So we really need Baldacci’s signature, because it doesn’t look like we’ll have the votes in the State House to override a real veto/pocket veto.
