If women liked sex as much as men, there would be straight cruising areas in the way there are gay cruising areas. Women would go and hang around in churchyards thinking: ‘God, I’ve got to get my fucking rocks off’, or they’d go to Hampstead Heath and meet strangers to shag behind a bush. It doesn’t happen. Why? Because the only women you can have sex with like that wish to be paid for it. I feel sorry for straight men. The only reason women will have sex with them is that sex is the price they are willing to pay for a relationship with a man, which is what they want. Of course, a lot of women will deny this and say, ‘Oh no, but I love sex, I love it!’ But do they go around having it the way that gay men do?
—The quote gay (and perennially celibate) British broadcaster Stephen Fry says was made up by Attitude magazine, and which has him now quitting Twitter [Telegraph]

Hey Stephen, have you looked in a mirror lately? You look like a bloated Daniel Patrick Moynihan for crying out loud. Ofcourse women will expect to be paid for sex with you.
John
Kieran.
He may be fat and bloated and BTW he doesn’t want to have sex with women; but he is smarter and funnier than anyone you will ever meet and is a credit to the gay community. Read, watch. I defy you not to agree with 95% of what he says and be in awe of him unless of course you do it with a closed mind.

@John: Well said. The quote was intended as a joke. The interview itself was very interesting and well-worth reading if anyone gets the chance.
John
Thanks Lefty, Fry is the Oscar Wilde of our times and apart from being highly intelligent has a wicked sense of humor and perfect comic timing. He may not be at his physical peak any more as referenced by the first person to post but if that is how we are supposed to judge a man; I want no part.

Women have “rocks” now?

GO STEPHEN!!!!!! The guy is brilliant….

@Kieran:
I for one would take Stephen Fry over just about all the pretty boys that grace the covers of fashion/sports magazines.

You’d think that folks would acquire some sensitivity towards fat bloated people, what with all the problems with badgering kids into an early grave.
Besides, Stepehn Fry is a genius. If you haven’t seen his late 1990’s PBS series, you’re missing out on some great stuff, like Jeeves & Wooster (played the butler) and his supporting role in Blackadder.

I absolutely agree with Stephen Fry’s observations on women. Like Stephen, I am not one to fall for this pro-female political correctness stuff that seems to have taken hold in the last couple of decades.
In the biological sense, women’s sexuality is nowhere near as pervasive as men’s. Moreover, women are sellers, not buyers. A seller advertises and deceives in order to get somebody to purchase what they’re selling. Women can thus agree to sex without actually desiring it. Consequently, women can use their sexuality as a marketing ploy to obtain benefits that are unrelated to sexual satisfaction.
Women have a hole, not an erection. A man must go from soft to hard in an involuntary act driven by the power of the sex drive. Women don’t undergo a similar transformation, and can thus disguise. Think fake orgasms, and you get the point of womanhood.
A lot of my observations can be summed up in two elements of our current modern society: fashion and bisexuality. On fashion, note how women have incorporated slutty clothing into their formal wear whereas men’s formal wear is still basically as conservative as it was a hundred years ago.
On bisexuality, female bisexuality – usually fake – has been glamorized but genuine male bisexuality has been demonized or ignored. It’s a double standard which women exploit as part of their overall fake sexual personas.

Stephen Fry is a better, funnier, smarter and superior person to anyone who has ever written for this site.
Not only was he purposely misquoted by the Observer, you’ve chosen to purposely misquote a better person than you.

@jason: Pal, you got some real issues you better get treatment or therapy for.
Ian
@jason: Parts of what you said were a little harsh, but they were true. Men are biologically oriented to spread their seed whether str8 or gay, and conversely women are biologically oriented to be highly selective for the best genetic material but also to have a good provider for children, etc. And part of that is that women regularly emotionally manipulate men through flirtation and sex to get what they want, it really IS a transaction in a sense.
Now mind you, this is generally the case between the genders, but of course there are always exceptions to the rules.
rrr
@Ian: Attractive people of both genders, straight and gay, use flirting to their advantage.
Straight men have never much respected women who give up sex without men having to put in any effort and if the men get it immediately before creating any personal bonds or commitments they usually don’t have much interest in the woman afterwards. Also, research has found straight guys are usually a lot more sexually selfish in casual hook ups with women than they are inside relationships, and since women need more than men normally to reach sexual fulfillment that’s going to mean a particularly shitty, probably little to no sexual satisfaction experience for them. Finally, women are trained to be scared of being violently assaulted or killed by hook ups with strangers and taught it will be held against them as asking for it if that befalls them after they walked into a hook up situation.
This is all part of a two way dynamic. Straight women aren’t acting in a vacuum, they are acting within cultures developed under male domination and in reaction to men.

There’s a great piece on Fagburn about the coverage of this in the British media; how it’s been misquoted and overblown…

Women have sex with strangers all the time. Just go to any bordello and there’s female prostitutes having sex with complete strangers in the form of male clients. Sorry, girls, but you’re potentially just as sleazy and promiscuous as men.
Of course, it’s a different form of promicuity. It’s more organized than the type of promiscuity you see on the male-male scene, and it involves a payment. Therefore, women are into organization and payment, a notion which harks back to my earlier point about female sexuality being about selling.

Nothing bonkers about that post…
