Someone Plays Gay Joke On Aussie ‘Idol’

guy3-2.jpg
2003 Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian has become the subject of a crude – yet really quite funny – technological prank.

Some clever hackers took it upon themselves to make some politically incorrect edits to his Wikipedia page, including changing his album Just As I Am into “Just As I Am Gay”. The hooligans also suggested Sebastian sang a song called “Receive The Power of Gay Sex”. Sounds like a club jam to us.

Another track listed: “All I Want For Christmas is You Having Gay Sex In My Arse”. Everyone knows, of course, that BQE sang that classic holiday tune.

This isn’t funny. It’s childish. I can’t believe this is here. Sad.

Nor are they “clever hackers” since editing Wikipedia is open to anyone, even anonymous IPs. Sebastian’s Wikipedia article has been protected from editing by anyone and most of the vandalism now removed.

Seriously. Nothing clever about editing Wiki, that’s the whole point of the site, regular people keep it updated, which means people can add crap whenever and wherever they want. When it gets too bad they look an entry to prevent more vandalism (there was a huge battle on Clay Aiken’s wiki page a couple of years ago, with similar oh so clever gay jokes made, and of course the Claymates responding by taking out legitimate gay related stuff that was supposed to be there. It was locked for ages).

You think this shit is funny? It’s not even close to clever or amusing, just dumb.

Yeah. I really don’t understand why a site dedicated to fair treatment of LGBT’s finds the use of “gay” as an insult “really quite funny”.

How could there still be those amongst us who think this is funny!? And that it was packaged in Wikipedia vandalism? It’s not even original.

What is this, the 5th grade?

You would think the people running a reasonably popular site like Queerty would be smart enough to understand how Wikipedia works, wouldn’t you? The “clever hackers” are vandals, unoriginal vandals, who create more work for people genuinely trying to create the biggest encyclopedia ever built. People spend a lot time on creating articles as accurately as possible. They shouldn’t have to run around after immature morons fixing up lame vandalism. To call them jokes is probably overstating them. It’s not even close to funny. I can take a good gay joke. These ain’t it.

P.S. Paul in DC, please don’t blame 5th graders. Most of them have more sense and maturity than the person or persons who did this.
