Sorry, But Some People Do Want to See Jude Law Smooch Robert Downey Jr.

sherlockjuderob

“There’s not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals,” says former New York Post film critic and right-wing-y radio host Michael Medved of Sherlock Holmes. “”I think they’re just trying to generate controversy . . . They know that making Holmes and Watson homosexual will take away two-thirds of their box office. Who is going to want to see Downey Jr. and Law make out? I don’t think it would be appealing to women. Straight men don’t want to see it.” But: WE DO!

See? Guy Ritchie does love the gays.

Robert Downey Jr. is straight? When did that happen? At detox?

I don’t understand… the trailer seems to have Holmes kissing McAdams’s character… (though Holmes does take a spouse-like berating from Watson)

Is this strictly conjecture?

I’ll have you know that I’m writing an undergraduate thesis all about this very thing: Sherlock Holmes and big gay double life narratives of the 1890s. Not only do I want to see everyone and their brother make out for my pleasure, I’ve read all the original Sherlock Holmes stories, and these characters all but invented domestic partnership. That dude is just infinitely wrong.

The probability that they were gay for each other is quite high anyone. I hope people get over this terror of prominent literary figures being gay. There are gay and straight people. Get over it.

It’s all a tease.

Anyone going to see this film expecting some sort of gay love, will be sorely disapointed…….not just because the film is most likely a turd.

Sherlock Holmes and Watson are not gay, and were never written that way. Guy Ritchie is just having his usual laugh at gays.

Michael Medved strikes me as a bit of a hypocrite. Would he be opposed if it was “two hot chicks”? I doubt it. Typical straight male hypocrisy.

Medved is symptomatic of the inconsistent morality of homophobes.

Speak for yourself, Medved.
I mean c’mon. This MICHAEL F***ing MEDVED we’re talkin’ about. Guy has issues with LGBT people anyway.
Not to mention that he’s one of the stupidest pundits alive.

I’ve read that medved doesn’t shower regularly, and smells like his crotch is rotting off.

And yet, throughout the history of cinema we’ve been watching homosexual stars impersonating heterosexuals very profitably…

The character Sherlock Holmes had a number of eccentricities i.e. an appetitwe for opium and eastern religion among them. I watch Jeremy Brett playing him becaus ehe is such a melodarmatic queen–very definitely with not even the slightest inclination toward women.

I think that if Americans are that illiterate and limited in scope as to not take enthusiasm from the variance of a notoriously different person, they should go to childrens christian movies, and eat up all the tedium they want.

While Brett was a little older and not as verile as Law and Downey ,and we don’t see him acting out, (it is implied); those twomight well be expected to show affection as homos did at that time. Sounds fun; wish they’d get up to more sniffing around with each other.

Michael Medved is a chancre in News Corp’s cancerous bosom. Holmes has been played a variety of ways over the years and as the above poster pointed out: Holmes has a lot of habits that should make Medved’s type bleat and moan, but he’s only worried about teh perceived gay.

Medved’s a douchebag. If there is actual gay subtext with Holmes and Watson, I will watch this over and over again. I like movies with punching and kicking and explosions. Throw in men who are comfortable with each other and not preening in masculine pretension because they have been beating up on people all through the movie, and this is sold many time over.

Pshaw! Holmes and Watson are as gay as Wooster and Jeeves, Damon and Pythias, Achilles and Patroclus, not to mention Walt Whitman, Lord Tennyson, Emily Dickinson, and George Elliot.

Michael Medved is a hypocritical turd who’s said this before about male-male kissing. Maybe this hypocrite is more into woman-woman kissing.
