Did you hear that? It was sound of thousands of gay men’s hearts breaking all around the world.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Zachary Quinto opened up about his feelings on love and marriage. And guess what? He’s not the marrying type. Sorry, fellas.
“I personally am not a huge fanatic of marriage,” the 37-year-old rabble rouser said. “Commitment and relationships are a very individual thing, and I don’t stand to tell other people what to do or who to do it with, but for me, love is defined by two people in an intimate and personal way, and superimposing an institution on that isn’t necessarily, for me, the most exciting idea.”
But don’t think that means he’s not all for marriage equality. He is. He just doesn’t want to get gay married himself.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“It’s something I have been an advocate for and a fighter for in the past eight years,” Quinto said. “I want to see that continue. And maybe there will come a day when it makes perfect sense for me personally. We’ll see.”
He also said he’d like to have kids some day.
“I definitely want kids, for sure,” he said. “I gravitate toward the people in my life who have kids. I love fostering relationships with them and watching them discover the world and being a part of that. I definitely want that.”
Sounds to us like Mr. Quinto just hasn’t met the right guy. Zachary, if you’re reading, give us a [email protected]. 😉

I love his work both on screen and off but never thought of him as attractive, no offense Zach. To each their own, I understand what he means completely. Hell I even share it to an extent save I prefer to be solo. :p

I much prefer the blue-eyed, dreamy, hot-as-hell Chris Pine over Zachery Quinto.

I have met the right guy, that has nothing to do with it. My partner and i have been together 20 years, live in NY and have no interest in getting married. I liked it better when being gay was seen as rebellious and different. Gays crave and demand acceptance so much these days…YAWN….who gives a hoot if anyone accepts you. Since when did another’s perception of you, alter your self esteem? Since when did their perception matter?

My man and I have been together for a very long time. While I too support SSM, it’s just not something that’s important to us. I always joke that, were we to get married, that little piece of paper would be the end of us. I’m not entirely convinced that’s not true.
Mack
@chaddyboy6: Good for you. But for some of us even being together for 20 years doesn’t give us some rights that other couples who have been together for 20 has. In some areas we wouldn’t even be allowed in the same room at the Hospital, particularly if it a religious related one. But every state is different. It shouldn’t be but in some states we really have to fight for our rights.
Arcamenel
I bet this is why he and Jonathan Groff didn’t work out. Groff defintely strikes me as someone who wants to be married.
rand503
Who wants to marry Zach? I just want to have sex with him.
I saw Out of Africa again i tv. I think Zach would make a great Denis, and Jonathan Groff a perfect Isak Dinesen.

Marriage might not be important to him now, but in the future he may want to have the legal benefits of marriage. Inheritance taxes can cost a fortune.

@chaddyboy6: Sorry but that pretentious thought of being an outcast is puke inducing.
One thing is not want to get married and other very different is not want to have the right to marry. One is perfectly valid, the other is accepting being a second rate citizen
And for some people marriage means medical care which is not very romantic but it’s very useful

Don’t quit your day job to become an estate lawyer to the wealthy
Someone with a lot of money is probably not likely to view “marriage” as a way to gain rights. Wealthy people don’t rely on a marriage license for estate planning.
“Some” were recently shocked at the size of an estate left by a 70 year old Wall Street Exec who was allegedly killed by his son. His estate was less than $2 million. Estate Lawyers on the other hand “saw” that the guy had already distributed his assets to his wife and kids (before his death) through trusts he created for them.
MarionPaige
btw, one of the funny points in guy’s will was that he stipulated that if his wife remarried the money in her trust would go to his son and daughter. His wife has to be in her 60’s and he was married to her for 30+ years and still he stipulated that she won’t get his money if she remarries. THAT’s the way a married het man looks at marriage.

@chaddyboy6: Wanting to be seen as rebellious and different also means that you care what other people think of you. Really rebellious, different people wouldn’t have a preference.
Captain proton
@chaddyboy6: Marriage is not just a matter of acceptance. Someday, when (god forbid) your boyfriend of 20+ years is lying in a hospital and the doctor won’t let you see him, let alone make any legal decisions about his condition, you may have a change of heart. too bad it will be too late.
LubbockGayMale
I’m with Zach. Marriage equality is a necessity in the other legal rights we gain (hospital visits, POA, inheritance, taxes, etc), but many of us are happy ‘co-habiting’ as they say.

Yeah, people like Elton John said the same type of stuff, and then he wasn’t able to legally adopt because of the issue and suddenly he freaked out.
You will have this opinion, until of course, you and your partner aren’t allowed to visit each other in the hospital, or something like that.
Your comment is like some woman saying “Gee, I liked it better when being a woman was more edgy and we couldn’t vote.

@MarionPaige: when my partner passed away 10 years ago, we lived in CA. We thought we had everything set up correctly. Used attorneys to set up everything. When he passed away, out jogging, I had to pay thousands of dollars to be able to keep the house, cars, investments etc. The ironic part is that he didn’t work. He was happiest as a stay at home “husband”.

I’ve been with my partner now for just over 11 years. Early on in our relationship, I recall the two of us talking about the idea of getting married someday, way before it was legal here in Minnesota and we just both just shrugged our shoulders and said “Why?” We’ve never felt the need to have that piece of paper like many others do. Our relationship is strong, monogamous, fun, sexy and we like to joke with our straight friends about how we have no interest in making honest men out of each other.
P.S. – The only way we think Zachary Quinto is hot as hell is when he’s got a full beard going.

@rand503: Either one would have been light years ahead of Robert Redford, who was stupefyingly bad (he has been great in many other roles) Granted, he was ridiculously miscast, but he didn’t even try (to reach back even farther, worst drunk scene since Kim Novak in “Jeanne Eagels”)
stanhope
<—not one of the so called "thousands". I am sure he's a nice enough guy and all but he won't get a stiffy from me unless he pulls out a black card at Cartier and says "get what you want baby." LOL LOL LOL I love when people make overarching comments like that….shows immense stupidity.
TemptyK
No, Zach is promiscuous. He wants his bread buttered on both sides and that’s why he and Jonathan Groff never worked out. He wants to mount every good-looking guy he sees and wants to have an open relationship. What’s the point of being in a relationship if we’re still going to fuck other people? I’m glad Jonny boy left this horny loser!
jwtraveler
@MarionPaige: So what? What does any of that have to do with ZQ’s love life?
jwtraveler
@TemptyK: What’s the point of being gay if you’re going to be as intolerant and judgmental of gay people as straight people are of you? Or maybe you are straight and are just here to be a pain in the ass. In that case, you’re succeeding.

I thought Zach was in a relationship with a model. Maybe he just doesn’t want to marry him.
Also some of you are living in a financial dream world if you think legally being married and having a state recognize it doesn’t make a different . Just look at the case of the Alabama man who got married in Cape Cod in 2011. Three months later his husband died in a car accident. Even though in addition to being married, they also had legal documents claiming each other as beneficiary, the mother in law blocked him from receiving the inheritance. She used the fact that Alabama didn’t recognize same sex marriage and therefore not recognize their marriage as a way to challenge his right to be the beneficiary of her son’s estate.
All of you going along saying that marriage means nothing should hope you don’t have any vindictive, greedy relatives who’d do what this woman is doing.
Captain Obvious
I think you have us confused with straight women if you think Quinto suddenly leaps to the top lists for gay men just because he’s famous.
Couldn’t care less about him sexually, let alone dreaming about marrying about him… never hit my radar.
Chris Pine, Shemar Moore, etc, etc. There are so many hot men in Hollyweird why would I need Quinto’s average looks when I can have the total Ken doll?
unclemike
My Chinese husband would not be allowed to emigrate to the USA if we weren’t married. Plus, you know, taxes, health care, life decisions…those frivolous things.
So, yay marriage.
vive
@unclemike, I emphasize with your situation because I have been in it myself. However, privileging marriage for immigration (and other) rights is still discriminatory. Many people have chosen families that don’t fall into the category of marriage, gay or straight.
