Same-sex marriage in Spain has been legal since July 3, 2005. But now that the country’s shitty economy has allowed Spain’s conservative Popular Party to win 186 of the 350 parliament seats in yesterday’s landslide elections, Prime Minister-elect Mariano Rajoy has the votes he needs to execute his plan of overturning the nation’s marriage equality law. Ay yai yai.

We are expecting a rush of refugees from Spain here in London as the new govt cuts the economy to the bone and jobs vanish and the economic situation goes from terrible to much much worse.

Hopefully the courts in Spain will rule that the government cannot deny same-sex couples the right to marry, should Equality die.

@tallskin2: Not necessarily, I heard on the news that young Spanish people emigrate to developing countries, especially Brazil, where the economy is booming and jobs can be found much more easily.

So sick of the social conservatives… here, there, everywhere.
dax
social conservatives are nothing but a bunch of backward ignorant neaderthals. It should be easy to defeat them
Dan
The tourism industry is one of the few strong segments of the Spanish economy; ending marriage equality would damage that industry while gaining nothing for politicians who do not stand to gain anything from such a move. I bet the conservatives already realize this and so it will remain unchanged with conservative politicians.
JM
Does this mean we need to glitterbomb all of Spain? Because Russia is going to be hard enough as it is…

Whoever wrote this is a stupid fucking idiot. “Conservatism” in European politics has NOTHING to do with what we in America think of. The new party in Spain is NOT!!! a socially conservative party. They have NEVER mentioned anything about gay marriage and it is a non-issue in the country. There are no plans whatsoever to get rid of gay marriage.
You are a stupid fucking idiot for writing this. You are literally making up news that goes beyond lacking facts, you are simple CREATING facts.
To anyone reading this article: SPAIN’S NEW PARTY IS NOT CONSIDERING GETTING RID OF GAY MARRIAGE. NO ONE IN THE COUNTRY IS. IT IS A NON-ISSUE. THIS ARTICLE IS JUST COMPLETELY MADE UP.
Ian
@dontturnaround: Get your facts straight. Rajoy is definitely opposed to marriage equality and the Popular Party has actually appealed the marriage equality law. I dunno, that sounds like they might be against it. Do ya think?
Fonseca
They went as far as saying the marriage equality law goes against the Spanish Constitution… the very same document where this right is recognised by a change made in one of its articles… apparently because it contradicts other articles, and such other bullshit. So there’s a very big possibility they’re going to get rid of this law. And they’re going to fuck with my future marriage. My boyfriend and I are not happy, to say the least. So, mr. dontturnaround, inform yourself better next time before going nuts.
