"The Gay Mafia That's Redefining Politics" gives readers a rundown on how seven of America's richest homos – Tim Gill, Linda Ketner, David Bohnett, John Stryker, Henry van Ameringen, James Hormel and Jonathan Lewis – are targeting elections across the country and defeating anti-gay agendas. [Time]

I have issues with the use of words like "clandestine", "secretive", and "mafia". And then the "nothing illegal" statement is buried on the third page. Some attempt is made to put this in context – this is what politics is like today on both the right and left – but not enough, I think. The thought at the very end that millionaire money is overshadowing grass-roots activity, and thereby changing the game is an interesting one, though. A different article would have used that as the starting point.
Using "mafia" in the title is the first tip off that the writer may have an agenda. The author brings up some good points about the role of money and the very rich in politics today. However, the tone of the piece is troubling.
What about David Geffen? Isn't he the richest gay person in America? I'd like to know what he's doing to help gay rights.
