A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away — well, 38 years ago in Northern California — a Star Wars mega-brand was spawned. And 38 years later, the franchise includes films, video games, TV shows, books, toys, you name it.
With that comes a cast of humans and aliens whose diversity is only limited by the imagination. But it isn’t 1977 anymore, and some fans of Star Wars wish that there’d be more gay characters thrown into the mix.
Now for the first time, an LGBT character has been introduced to the canon. In Lords of the Sith, a new novel, writer Paul S. Kemp has written in a lesbian Imperial captain named Moff Mors.
Editor Shelly Shapiro spoke recently about the need for more representation in Star Wars on the podcast Full of Sith.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
She said:
“You have all these different species and it would be silly to not also recognize that there’s a lot of diversity in humans. If there’s any message at all, it’s simply that Star Wars is as diverse—or more so because they have alien species—as humanity is in real life and we don’t want to pretend it’s not. It just felt perfectly natural.”
Lords of the Sith is scheduled for release on April 28th, 2015. You can preorder it here.

Actually, back in 2003, Juhani, a lesbian Jedi Knight was introduced into the canon in the Bioware game Knights of the Old Republic. Also, in the novels, there is a Mandalorian couple (both male) who are openly living together as a couple and raising a daughter together. That being said, it’s awesome to see more LGBT characters in this franchise.

How do you make a rainbow colored light sabre?

I love my lesbian sisters, but I hope we get a gay male eventually as well.

@polarisfashion: Glitter!

And they named her More Muff??

@lykeitiz: The gay male character will be Dik Lubber. So what is it? A galien, a lesbot? A dykroid?

Moff Mors Munches Muff.

She is the first in cannon LGBT character the others no longer count. Her name is not Moff that’s her RANK making her one of the highest ranking military officers just under a Grand Moff and at the top is the Emperor.
IvanPH
so C3PO is straight?

Thank you for the Moffat jokes so I didn’t have to make them.
As for gay characters, maybe some of you who have read the books can correct me, but based on the movies. Luke has gone a suspiciously long time without getting any play.

With the new movie, any of the expanded universe that take place after the original trilogy are no longer canon. So, in those books, Luke was married and had a son. That storyline no longer counts because the new movie will become the new canon.
I forgot about that when I mentioned the Mandalorian couple (since they are post original trilogy). But the EU characters that happen prior to the movie trilogies are still canon (secondary canon, like this novel). So Juhani, since she’s from the Old Republic time period and was allies with Revan (who is canon), still counts. Plus, I had forgotten that they added in a new character, Theron Shan, who is a bisexual Republic spy. He would be canon as well, since he’s descended from Revan and Bastila, both of whom are canon.

Always hated the word “Sith.” Just transpose the “h”. That’s what I thought of the later star wars productions.
