Stop Making Lesbian Actress Miriam Margolyes Play A Lesbian

I don’t like playing lesbians. I am a lesbian, but I don’t like playing them. I loath kissing women on stage or on screen. Absolutely loathe it. And I’ll tell you why, it’s because I don’t want them to think that I fancy them.

—Miriam Margolyes, the 69-year-old British lesbian actress (Madame Morrible in London’s Wicked, Professor Sprout in Harry Potter 2), has on-screen sexual preferences [via]

Translation: “I’m a lesbian but I’m not very good at it.”

      i fucking loooove this woman!
there is nothing funnier than a camp lesbian. she is the best in the business. she is a british national treasure.

this clever, witty, accomplished actor and comedian, is thoroughly naughty and wonderfully grubby minded. under the guise of her eccentricity is able get away with utter filth, but equally is able to move you to tears.

i particularly love the brave and humane stance she takes on Israel vis-a-vis the palestinian issue, which earned her the ire of some her fellow jewish community.

i think she is criminally under appreciated. in short i think i rather love her. in a hands strictly above the bed sheets kinda way. if she was up her a lavender marriage she could just name the day!

OMG professor Sprout is a lesbian?! I had no clue she preferred a Mandagora over a Mandrake if you catch my drift haha.

She’s great in the “Black Adder” series, too.

A fabulous actress and arguably one of the funniest out there. Definitely a national treasure for the UK.

Hehe, Miriam is great. She was the voice behind the Caburys Caramel Bunny, which thousands of straight blokes fancied. I bet she still laughs her socks off at that.
