Sweet-en!

“[Sweden] has made what has been called a ‘remarkable’ decision to grant asylum to gays and lesbians from Iran. The Swedish Migration board has decided that openly gay and lesbian people of Iran will be granted instant asylum in the country, contrary to the previous asylum-conditions that required substantial evidence of the individual’s persecution.” [Mamba]

If Sweden gets lots of takers, it will prove the lie to Ahmadinejad’s assertion that gays don’t exist in Iran.

And there goes Sweden down the drain.
Without any evidence how can they be sure that the people they are granting asylum to are not posing? And even if they weren’t people of such backgrounds often never contribute nothing positive to the GLBT community and more often than not end up siding and becoming more involved with the ethnic communities they fled from in the first place.

“Often never contribute nothing positive…”

A double negative. Shocking.

Better idea: spend that money on yourself. Specifically, for some much-needed therapy.

In Iran, being openly gay really is proof enough, since the environment is so hostile to gays and lesbians (but not transgendered folk). An accusation of having gay sex can bring death by stoning.

The Gay Iranians I’ve met have been fairly classy, artistic people. Hopefully Sweden will get more of the same!

Iran’s persecution of LGBT people is well-documented. The “worries” about people “pretending to be gay” are no different than “worries” about marriages of convenience, religious asylum claims, etc. Bogus worries.

Decisions like this makes me proud to be Swedish, I mean. And hey; good time to decide it, just a month before europride, hello PR
