• Same-sex couples in Belgium can legally co-parent children as of yesterday. The law only passed by one vote in the Senate, which seems weird to us. They let the gays marry, but then get squemish about adoption. We guess we shouldn't complain though, now that they have joined Spain, the Netherlands and Sweden in giving equal adoption rights to gay couples. [365 Gay]

• Alleged Duke rapist Collin Finnerty's gay-bashing incident in D.C. last year did not involve an actual gay, but just a few straight guys calling each other "fag." The incident was not treated as a hate crime, but still provides evidence that Finnerty is a complete prick. [Washington Blade]

Mitt Romney, the gay-hating conservative governor of the only state in the Union that offers queers marriage rights, has changed his mind about gays adopting children. He's okay with it now. Sort of.
Of course this is only so Catholic Charities, who have cut the neglected little monsters off from everyone, including straights in order to avoid legal requiremnets to adopt to gays and lesbians.
He leaves his aggressive hate at the door and decides to take condescending approach to spewing his venom.
"I know that there will be some gay couples who will say that this could be discriminatory against us," Romney told reporters after an unrelated press conference at the Westin Copley Place hotel. "Except that there are many, many other agencies that can meet the needs of those gay couples, and I recognize that they have a legitimate interest in being able to receive adoptive services."
Well at least he got one thing right. Gays will say it's discriminatory because, um, well, you see…it is!
Oh, that picture of a possible love connection you see above is Romney gazing lovingly into the eyes of Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce head Paul Guzzi. How Cute.

We'd heard that adoption was going to be a hott button issue this year. But we thought it was just going to be gay adoption. An Ohio Democratic lawmaker has proposed a bill that would ban all “GOP adoptions.” The proposed bill would limit any household with one or more Republican parents from adopting children.
Hagan said his "tongue was planted firmly in cheek" when he drafted the proposed legislation. However, Hagan said that the point he is trying to make is nonetheless very serious.
Hagan said his legislation was written in response to a bill introduced in the Ohio House this month by state Rep. Ron Hood, R-Ashville, that is aimed at prohibiting gay adoption."We need to see what we are doing," said Hagan, who called Hood's proposed bill blatantly discriminatory and extremely divisive. Hagan called Hood and the eight other conservative House Republicans who backed the anti-gay adoption bill "homophobic."
Though obviously meant as a joke, we think the lawmaker is on to something. Take on look at the Bush twins, the Reagan kids, Mary Cheney’s hair, and of course, the ultimate proof that Republicans raise bad children: George W. Bush.

Since they're pretty much losing the battle against gay marriage, conservatives are now turning their attention toward banning gays& lesbians from adopting children. They're up and running with November ballot inititatives. Someone please save the children from The Gays! But there are already some surprisingly strange laws already on the books across the country. For example, single gays can adopt kids in Mississippi, but queer couple cannot. This is logical. Well, not really.
At least Utah is consistent. All unmarried couples (that includes straights!) are prevented from adopting.
But conservatives are already losing this battle, too. Last week a Missouri judge ruled a lesbian can be a foster mother. It may not be adoption per se, but it's certainly a step in that direction for the state.
