Despite governmental disapproval, an Australian Anglican school's council approves of a ban on same-sex couples at an end-of-the-year dance. [QLP]

Australian journalist Mark Furler defends an Australian Anglican school's ban on gay couples at a school dance: "While the issue of one’s sexuality is surely a personal decision, surely a school has the right to enforce its own standards and preferences – rather than being dictated to by state authorities, students or lobbyists who claim discrimination." [Sunshine Coast Daily]

Rowan Williams came out for the gays yesterday. The Archbishop of Canterbury, who's constantly fighting his Anglican peers on the lavender sets' place at the table, told the press that homophobic death threats against activist Colin Coward amount to nothing more than "unchristian bullying." [BBC]

Akinola Ain't Feeling American Compromise
Wanted Change of "Heart"

Nigeria's Anglican Archbishop had harsh words for his American counterparts.

The Episcopal Church voted this week to "restrain" its gay-welcoming urges. Peter Akinola, the aforementioned Archbishop who's pushing the Americans to abandon gays, says the Episcopals aren't going far enough.

Sadly it seems that our hopes were not well-founded and our pleas have once again been ignored. Instead of the change of heart (repentance) we sought, what we have been offered is merely a temporary adjustment in an unrelenting determination.

As if Akinola would know anything about "heart".

Gay Wins Discrimination Case Against Church of England

The rule of law vanquished a Reverend's rule in England, where John Reaney won his discrimination case against The Anglican Bishop of Hereford, Reverend Anthony Priddis.

Reaney filed the lawsuit after Priddis turned him down for a job for a previous gay relationship. The Colwyn Bay-based queer had applied for a job at the Church and had been previously been lauded for being an ideal candidate.

That all changed when he met with Priddis on July 19, 2006 when Reaney fessed up to having had a long-term gay relationship.

Ugandan Anglican Takes on Teachers
Also, American Episcopals Plan "Parallel Church"

Ugandan Anglican Archbishop Henry Orombi's a man on a mission. A homophobic mission, that is.

The so-called holy man's attempting to educate the nation's educators on the gay dangers. Speaking in Kayunga, Orombi claims Uganda's teachers are more concerned with getting the kids in school than properly educating them on acceptable social behavior:

Acts of homosexuality and lesbianism have infiltrated our schools, especially secondary schools. I have personally joined the war against the vice and I want you to join me.

While he's asking his countrymen to join his anti-queer crusade, Orombi insisted he and his righteous comrades won't be teaming up with America's pro-gay Episcopals, even if it means giving up precious financial aid:

We shall not associate with them even if it means losing aid. We rather remain poor than accept aid which will in the end lead to moral decay of society.

Religious fanatics never cease to amaze us - this man would rather he and his countrymen go hungry than deal with their gay-friendly Christian cousins? That's some fucked up shit.
