Recent polls indicate that the right may be gaining more support in California, where they're diabolically plotting to pass Proposition 8, a ballot measure intended on overturning this year's gay marriage.

Frightened by such an illiberal prospect, Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today donated $25,000 to the gay cause and urged his fellow Californians to do the same. Wrote Villaraigosa in an open letter:

I entered politics because the America of my dreams includes everyone, not just a few.

I vow to vote No on Proposition 8 because I believe our civil society demands that we uphold — not eliminate — these fundamental rights. I believe all Californians deserve to be treated equally. And I believe that government exists to protect individual rights, not to undermine them.

I would like you to join me by digging deep and contributing whatever you can afford…

Mr. Mayor just got even more attractive.

Human Rights Campaign's past continues to bite back.

The non-profit caused a rift last year when it supported a non-inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act after vowing to fight for trans inclusive measure. Even after the group apologized and promised to right its wrongs, some queer activists still aren't feeling the HRC love.

And they're fighting back.
