The idea of a gay gang mate's too much for some Baltimore teens, say Prosecutors.

Steven T. Hollis III and Juan L. Flythe, who may be part of the Blood gang, remain in prison after allegedly stabbing and stomping their friend Steven Parrish to death after finding "gay" text messages on his phone.

Enraged by their findings, Hollis and Flythe - 18 and 17, respectively - followed 18-year old Parrish into the woods and murdered him, say investigators…

» No Charges For Former Mayoral Aide

Anthony W. McCarthy can breathe easy today. Baltimore police will not file charges against the former mayoral aide, who was placed on leave last November following allegations of unspecified "inappropriate conduct". McCarthy's bulldog attorney definitely stayed on top of the case: "Baltimore County has declined to prosecute Mr. McCarthy. They did an extensive investigation and whether the witnesses corroborated the evidence, I don't know." No word on whether McCarthy will return to work. [Baltimore Sun]

Hey, Candidates, They're Talking To You!

Boy, oh boy, Baltimore Sun staffers sure did pen a blistering analysis of Don't Ask, Don't Tell!

While the Sun editorial doesn't necessarily bring anything new to the table, but does offer quite the scathing conclusion:

This policy of pointless discrimination perhaps serves only cowards in Congress and demagogues on the campaign stump. Anyone who truly supports the troops will vote to treat all of them with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Remember top Republican candidate Mike Huckabee's previous comments on Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Oh, and don't forget his uniform response at the CNN/YouTube debates. As for the demagogues, well, that may very well be the Democrats.

By the way, today's the 66th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Just thought you should know that…

What Is "Inappropriate"?

anthony_mccarthy.jpg
Baltimore's Mayor Sheila Dixon will have to speak for herself.

Gay mayoral spokesman Anthony McCarthy has been placed on leave for nebulous "inappropriate behavior":

[McCarthy] is being investigated by Baltimore County police for "inappropriate behavior" and was placed on indefinite leave from his position, the mayor's office confirmed yesterday.

A Baltimore County police spokesman said the department received a complaint about McCarthy's behavior last week, but the spokesman declined to make the report public or offer details about the complaint.

A "shocked and disappointed" Dixon learned of the complaint on Saturday, but allegedly doesn't know the nature of McCarthy's alleged inappropriateness.

Someone needs to get that girl in the loop! And mood stabilizers: the clueless mayor's simply shocked and disappointed for no reason!

Did Phelps and Friends Lie About Finances?

phelpsfredr.jpg
Fred Phelps and his spawn have a bit of a problem.

They've been ordered to cough up nearly $11 million for picketing at a soldier's funeral, but their Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church can't muster the moolah. Aw, ain't that a shame?

The fallen soldier's father, Arnold Snyder and his legal team claim the Phelps clan hasn't been forthright with their finances. Not only did they not present all of their financial documents, but daughter Rebekah Phelps-Davis lied about having sole ownership of a $146,600 home. Records unsealed yesterday, however, show that she shares responsibility with her husband. We guess their demented God shines brightly on shady liars, huh.

We've included an allegedly complete list of the group's finances after the jump.

Equate Gay Rights With Civil Rights, Cause Stir

elbridge_james_picture-2.jpg
There's some trend bucking in Baltimore, where a group of black activists have come out for gay marriage. Under the leadership of Elbridge James (pictured), the Maryland Black Family Alliance will push their peers to join the call for gay civil rights. Says James:

There's a scarcity of information on this issue in the black community. The black press doesn't cover it; talk radio doesn't cover it. … We have this sort of 'don't ask, don't tell policy' in our community.

As James talks gay rights, others question the parallels between gay and black social movements. Politico pastor Emmett C. Burns Jr objects to the correlation:

I get really bent out of shape when you talk about gay and lesbian rights as a civil rights issue. Whites can hide their gayness; I cannot hide my blackness.

First, that's not always true. Second, did Burns just imply that all gays are white?!

John Waters prove that gays boys make the best sons. The Hairspray creator escorted his beautiful mother to last night's premier in Baltimore, his home town.

The cast and crew - including Zac Efron, Elijah Kelly, Nikki Blonsky and John Travolta defender Adam Shankman - danced the night away after enjoying yet another viewing of the musical remake of the 1988 classic.

And, no, we don't think Mama Waters cut a rug, but we bet she could if she wanted…
