John McCain yesterday criticized political opponent Barack Obama's speech in Berlin, saying, "I would rather speak at a rally or a political gathering any place outside of the country after I am president of the United States… But that's a judgment that Sen. Obama and the American people will make." McCain must be forgetting his speech in Canada last June. [MSNBC]

» A Kiss.

Berlin's new gay Holocaust memorial features a video of two men kissing. It's exactly what it sounds like and, quite frankly, a bit boring. There's not even any groping! [Towleroad]

It's a big day in Berlin, where the city's memorial for gay Holocaust victims officially opened. The structure, set up near a larger Holocaust memorial, includes a video loop showing two men kissing and this message, "A simple kiss could land you in trouble."

The Nazi's gay victims are getting all sorts of (much-needed) attention these days.

Last week we passed on word
that Tel Aviv will erect a memorial for the Holocaust's homo targets. Now, after over a year of waiting, Berlin will soon unveil its constructive commemoration:

It takes the form of a gray concrete slab, with a window to allow visitors to view a video. It cost 600,000 euros (£450,000).

There will be two alternated videos which show either two men kissing or two women kissing.

Originally, the plan was for a video of just two men, but that proposal drew heavy criticism from people who claimed that lesbians were being excluded.

The memorial was developed at the southern edge of the Tiergaten after Danish-Norwegian artistic duo Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset won the artistic competition.

Those of you interested in the horrors of gay life under the regime should check out I, Pierre Seel, Deported Homosexual, a Frenchman's memoir of his experience in (and out) of concentration camps. It's not for the faint of heart, but should be read by everyone.

The $890,000 monument honoring the Nazi's gay victims should be done within the next few months, said officials in Berlin. Then they'll start working on a memorial for fallen Roma.

Twenty-eight lucky - and aged - lavenders can now move into Europe's first gay retirement home:

The newly built, four-storey nursing facility in the German capital could accommodate 28 patients in state-of-the-art rooms with private bathrooms and enough space for some of their own furnishings, said Christian Hamm, an architect and nursing home board member.

"When you're old … you certainly don't want to give up your identity and live in some hostile environment, possibly sharing a room with someone who despises you."

But can you imagine living with 27 old queens? Sheesh!

Homo mogul David Geffen hit the jackpot when he signed California-based rockers Berlin.

Their 1986 single, "Take My Breath Away," hit number one in no less than five countries. This track, "The Metro," didn't do quite as well, but still ranks as one of our number one favorites.

Also, check out "Take My Breath Away," after the jump…

Beth Ditto and The Gossip got down at Glastonbury. And when we say down, we mean as far down as she could go. Miraculously, her underwear made it further.

Canadian Anglicans split on gay nuptials:

In a tense vote after nearly two days of debate at the church's synod in Winnipeg, lay and clergy members voted in favour of a motion that would have allowed dioceses in Canada officially to authorise blessings. But the church's bishops voted against the move by 21 votes to 19, meaning that the motion failed, because it needed to be passed by all three groups.

God almighty! Can't they just have a schism and get on with it already?

• Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov may find himself grounded. Human rights activists are protesting his anti-gay ways by asking the international community to restrict him to Russia.
