You have to give Michael Signorile credit for not losing his cool as Universal Press Syndicate writer and President of the Institute for Marriage and Public Policy Maggie Gallagher spews a bunch of lies about why gay people shouldn't marry. Signorile, whose never been one to keep his mouth shut about anything, plays it smart and gives Gallagher all the rope she needs to hang herself with.

If the argument Gallagher presents (Marriage is for breeding! Gays are gonna get us!) is the best our opponents can come up with (and there's no reason they wouldn't put their best foot forward on CNN), our goal is simple– point out, calmly and simply that the case against marriage equality is based on lies and stupidity. Poor Michael, he's like a kindergarten teacher enduring a student's tirade in this piece.

Oh gosh, we'll get to the weirdness of the Coop hosting this segment in a sec, but don't you just want to punch Tony Perkins, Family Research Council President's face in? By "punch" we mean "invalidate his intolerance through legal due process", of course. It is pretty gratifying to watch him bluster on as Dan Savage senses fear radiating from Perkins' beady little eyes. I know, I know, this discussion should have happened before Prop. 8 passed, but it didn't. We're having it now by making ourselves and our point visible, though and that's worth celebrating.

It's hard watching Anderson Cooper anchor a segment about gay rights — particularly, gay marriage — when he can't even acknowledge where he stands on the issue.

"[Rachel] Maddow, who's only been hosting MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show for 25 days, has doubled her audience in that time (from 800k to 1.7m), and beats her CNN timeslot opponent, Larry King Live, as often as not." [Jossip]

Jane Fonda shocked the world when she said "cunt" on the Today Show this year, but the actress finds herself topped today after CNN's Kyra Phillips twice let the dreaded c-word slip while introducing Republican strategist Leslie Sanchez.

Unlike Fonda, Phillips' was simply stumbling over the word "contributor," so it was a complete accident. We think. And don't worry about Sanchez - she has a good chuckle over the vulgarity. Those Republicans are just such sports!

Out actor Bryan Batt, who plays a closeted homosexual on AMC's Mad Men, recently sat down with CNN to discuss the state of being gay in Hollywood.

While some label Hollywood's gay hesitancy as "homophobic," Batt takes a more nuanced approach:

It's just like any prejudice, once you let go of any prejudice they all have to go. They're not based on facts, just on stereotypes. I really think yes, there might be some homophobia in Hollywood, but it's based on what will sell. Hollywood is a huge industry, a multibillion-dollar business. If actors who are gay will get ratings and will sell, they will get cast.

There are always going to be people who look at people who are different and who disapprove [of them] either through fear or through ignorance. We have to work toward acceptance on all levels. How long ago were the civil rights movement and the women's movement? And, still today, women don't make the same amount of money as men do for doing the same job.

Batt, you're our new favorite Hollywood homo.

Larry King has a well-earned reputation for launching soft balls to his interview subjects, but not so when it comes to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was in town addressing the United Nations.

While some mainstream media types avoid getting into gay speak, King grilled Ahmadinejad about his country's homophobic human rights record.

[Gay action starts at about the 1:43 mark.]

» Maddow Tops King.

Lipstick or not, lesbian journalist Rachel Maddow's turned out to be a great addition to MSNBC's prime time line-up: "Last week the program was #2 in cable news in both the A25-54 demo and in Total Viewers at 9pmET, beating CNN's Larry King Live… In the two weeks since Maddow took over the 9pmET slot, the program's nine shows have averaged 556,000 demo viewers and 1.6M Total Viewers. Maddow's averages are more than double the final two weeks (eight shows) of Verdict with Dan Abrams (225,000 demo / 601,000 Total Viewers.)" [Media Bistro]

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper told Gossip Girl Blake Lively she "smells good," while co-hosting Regis & Kelly today. He sort of looked like he wanted to touch her hair, but then managed to restrain himself to have some girl talk about shoes, diamonds, Willy Wonka and other such things.

CNN Anchor Defends English Language

Brent Rinehart appeared on CNN's American Morning todayto defend his anti-gay comic book.

In case you weren't paying attention, the Oklahoma County Commissioner, who is running for reelection, published the 16-page book to highlight his commitment to destroying the queers. When asked whether it's relevant to his election, Rinehart insists that it is, because we are in a cultural war. When asked whether he's homophobic, Rinehart played (real) dumb: I'm not even sure as to what homophobic means. But let's just keep in mind that we are in a cultural war, not just here in the state of Oklahoma but nationwide." CNN journo John Roberts does not seem amused. You can tell when he does a little grammar check: "We should also point out that the word pedophile is spelled wrong in the two times that's it's used in this comic book."

In a bit of self-prophesizing, CNN weatherman Rob Marciano answers V Man's question, “Is it possible for a journalist to be a sex symbol?,” thus: “I don’t see why not. Presidential candidates have been called sex symbols. I don’t think the label is exclusive to movie stars.”

Indeed.

What would you do if hunky homo-journo Thomas Roberts hiked you out into the wilderness? Whatever it is, we bet you didn't think "Interview him!"

Well, that's what The Advocate's Sean Kennedy did - fool! - and got the 35-year old to open up on about his very public exit from CNN. Contrary to rumors, says Roberts, he was not fired suspiciously close to coming out. His contract was over and, you know, he had personal shit.

The boys then get into the reality of news television - and how it's too conservative for an openly gay anchor. In fact, Kennedy shares some interesting insight into his own experience trying to nail Roberts. For an interview, that is:

…When I first inquired about an interview with Roberts before he started at The Insider, a spokesperson for the show instantly said no. When I followed up two months later, it was no dice again. Roberts says he doesn’t recall being contacted either time.

This January, though, he got involved directly, when I learned through a mutual contact that he was interested in talking. Yet when he ran the idea up the flagpole, he too was denied. Roberts won’t cite the reasons on the record, but he was clearly disappointed by the decision.

But then The Insider gave him the green light, Roberts let loose and the world continues to spin. Incredible!

CNN's Richard Quest has entered rehab after being arrested in Central Park with meth in his pocket and a rope tied around his penis. CNN had little to say on gay journo's drug drama: "At this time, CNN's primary concern is for his health and wellbeing. We look forward to Richard returning to CNN International." [Guardian

What was CNN journalist Richard Quest thinking when he got arrested with meth and a rope tied to his penis?

God only knows, but the kooky kids at 23/6 are venturing some guesses with a patented thought process flow chart.

Briton Quest's adventure begins with "Ah, spring in Central Park" and ends with "God save this queen."
