Poor baby!

South African educator Dr Louis Dey has filed a defamation lawsuit against three high schoolers after the boys distributed a doctored porn picture featuring Dey and a colleague "masturbating." Dey was so "humiliated" that he had to leave his gig at the school and move elsewhere:

A former vice-principal of Hoërskool Waterkloof became extremely emotional on Thursday as he told the Pretoria High Court how three pupils manipulated a picture of two naked gay men - sitting snug together on a couch while masturbating - by substituting their faces with those of the school's principal and vice-principal.

A tearful Dey told Judge Ben du Plessis that he was so humiliated and belittled by this that he could not bear facing the pupils.

I honestly felt like just sitting in my office and not coming out. I wanted to crawl into a hole."

Though the boys have been punished at school and have been assigned community service, Dey's still asking for monetary compensation. So, basically, this whiner is trying to take these kids' milk money. And, of course, setting a bad example by claiming being "gay" counts as something inhumane.

"A 'gay-friendly' Chicago public high school that will weave gay and lesbian "heroes" — from James Baldwin to Gertrude Stein — into its curriculum was among 20 new school proposals unveiled Wednesday… In U.S. history and other classes, "gay and lesbian historical figures" would be taught so gay youth 'have heroes,' said Bill Greaves, Chicago's liaison on issues affecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. 'We will teach the history of all people, but we are just going to make sure these people are not invisible in that history," said Greaves, part of the Pride Campus design team." The school hopes to open in 2010. [Chicago Sun-Times]

Louisiana's moving up in the gay world: "The victories of two openly gay school board candidates in Louisiana mark the election of the state’s first two openly gay elected officials. Victory endorsee Thomas Robichaux and Seth Bloom both won their elections to the Orleans Parish School Board. The wins effectively remove Louisiana from the Victory Fund’s “Horizon State” list — a list of states that lack any elected LGBT representation. That list now includes Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota and South Carolina." [Gay Politics]

"The University of Iowa is increasing harassment training after anti-gay graffiti was found in a restroom at the School of Social Work's North Hall… The university's director of public safety, Chuck Green, says officers are investigating the incident, which was reported Monday… Associate Professor Ed Saunders says a male student reported that he saw a message written on a chalk board in a restroom in North Hall several weeks ago. Saunders says the message was an anti-gay slur against a doctoral student and teaching assistant. He says it was unknown how long the message was there but that it was gone by the time the student reported it." [Chicago Tribune]

Some educators in Clovis, New Mexico, seriously lack backbone.

The area's main high school came under fire four months ago after the student-run yearbook, the Plainsman, included pictures of a lesbian duo in a round up of the campus' cutest couple. Buckling under pressure from angry locals - or is it yokels? - the school board has decided to take complete control of the district's student-driven publications:

The board voted 3-2 to pass the new publications code Tuesday. The code also gives school principals authority to review students' work before publication.

Clovis Municipal School District Superintendent Rhonda Seidenwurm said the school district's previous publications code did not allow principals to review student publications.

Under the code, students can appeal a decision regarding content. The board of education will have the final say in the appeals process.

Oh, that's promising!

When should students start learning about human rights? According to some Canadian educators, not until they're in college. Because high schoolers aren't human.

Thus, the Abbotsford School District Board puts the brakes on an elective social studies course because it teaches about homophobia. Those lessons, say some board members, encroach on students' religious beliefs.

While many teachers have expressed their outrage, perhaps British Columbia Federation of Teacher president Irene Lanzinger best describes the idiocy…

The ad wars heated up yesterday when John McCain released this commercial attacking Barack Obama's education policy.

That policy, says the narrator, amounts to little more than passing "comprehensive sex education" to kindergartners. (Someone think of the children!) What the ad doesn't say, however, is that Obama's "sex education" was meant to help teach children about sexual abuse and molestation. The legislation was preventative.

The Obama camp's rightfully displeased about McCain's low blow and described his misinformation as "perverse". Campaign spokesman Bill Burton blasted the Republican's team:

It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls - a position that his friend Mitt Romney also holds. Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn't define what honor was. Now we know why.

The best part of all this - the articles cited in the McCain commercial are also severely critical of his policy.

Some schools in New Zealand are allowing students to bring same-sex dates to balls, but with a bit of a caveat: they have to sign a gay pledge.

Pupils are being prevented from taking same-sex partners to school balls unless they sign contracts confirming they are homosexual, a gay support group says.

Rainbow [Youth] education officer Serafin Dillon knows of four Auckland colleges that do not allow same-gender ball partners unless pupils sign contracts stating their sexual orientation.

She would not name the schools but said their policies were discriminatory and breached the Bill of Rights.

"If this was in the workplace it would be discrimination and it would be unheard of. But because it's a school they think they can somehow get away with it."

Bad education, indeed.

We just stumbled across this video, entitled "Gay Education."

It's fairly informative and covers a lot of ground, like possible biological explanations for the world's homosexuals and the negative impact of the ex-gay movement.

Today's Friday. Indulge yourself…
