» Murder Speeds Toilet Demolition

Local British politicos are pushing for a toilet cruising spot to be demolished after Peter Akers' stabbing death last month. The area was already set to be replaced with new facilities - and a cafe! - but the murder may speed up the process. [Wimbeldon Guardian]

All sorts of people get cancer, yes, but not everyone's at risk for the same type of cancer. Breast cancer strikes more often in women than men, of example. Also, only men can get prostate cancer - women, bless them, don't have that magical gland.

Health officials in England realize that we queers may have specific concerns and questions about cancer. That's why a NHS trust has produced guides specifically for gay men and women.

The new leaflets explain the risk factors for gay men and lesbians - for example, a higher risk of anal cancer in HIV-positive gay men - and explain simple things they can do that might save their lives, such as checking for lumps and attending screening appointments.

If you're not down with checking yourself for lumps, we suggest you get someone to do it for you. It's the grope that keeps on giving…

British national Stephen English claims his former coworkers harassed him because he lives in homo-heavy.

The taunts started, he claims, when an area sales manager discovered that he had been to boarding school and lived in Brighton, which has a high proportion of gays in its population.

"He appeared to have assumed from these two facts that I had homosexual tendencies, despite the fact that I was happily married with three daughters," he told the employment tribunal.

"It became obvious to me that he had shared his views with numerous colleagues. I regularly had to endure remarks such as 'faggot' at national sales meetings, team meetings at my home and regional managers' meetings.

English couldn't handle the nagging and eventually quit his gig. He then sued for discrimination, but lost the case. The Equality and Human Rights Commission will now help him appeal the case.

There's some not-so-super censorship happening over England way!

The internet can sting at any time - and more than just once!

You may remember Chris Dreyfus as the British copper who got flack for his lickin', spankin' gay Facebook page. Well, poor Dreyfus' digital past cost him a promotion:

Inspector Chris Dreyfus, 30, British Transport Police’s head of royalty and government protection, had been offered a position as a chief inspector with Bedfordshire Police after an interview on February 13.

But the force subsequently withdrew the offer after carrying out background checks on him.

They discovered he had received a disciplinary warning from his seniors at British Transport Police over his Facebook page.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police said: “After the interview (on 13 February) we ran routine background checks and we were told he had a live sanction against him. “Therefore we felt unable to proceed with the job offer.”

Speaking of flashbacks, here's how BTP spokesman Simon Ludin said last year, when the original story broke: "We will look into [suspension], but our professional standards people had a quick look yesterday and didn't find anything wrong."

» Gay Group Raises Smoking Questions

England's Gay Men Fighting AIDS claims that smoking can have even deadlier effects on people infected with HIV. And it's not because of a compromised immune system, they say: "HIV treatments are working to extend the life expectancy of people living with HIV, but these can have a health impact of their own and so it is more important than ever that those who are infected with HIV take care of themselves and their health." One or more spray paint brandishing Brits decided to let the Stonewall Foundation know what they think of their new controversial ad campaign: they're not having it. The group's education officer Chris Gibbons had this to say: "[This] is a reminder that homophobia still exists in our society and highlights the need to address the issue in schools and in our communities."

Is it us or was potentially overrated Kylie Minogue trying to capitalize on Kanye West's Daft Punk-inspired futurism at last night's Brit Awards? Also, what song do you think lesbian Beth Ditto and ever-ambiguous Mika performed together? Not "Big Girls," we sure…

Ack! It's happened again. Another gay man found himself dead after a bloody encounter in a toilet. This one occurred in England. Although police won't reveal the victim's name, but one officer had this to say: "Early indications lead police to believe that he might have known his attacker though we don't know in what context or for how long." Coppers are calling on queers for any information that may help find the shitty stabber. [BBC]

» "Good Poof" Fights Back

Briton Ben Hamilton told a a court he was forced out of his job at a BMW retailer after his colleagues tormented him for being go. In addition to calling him a "good poof" and "Bender Ben," Hamilton's colleagues also allegedly banned him from wearing pink shirts and mocked his love of Elton's John, whose music they labeled "crap". That summation lent itself quite nicely to a workmates alleged snide: "But surely you boys are used to that, being in the same club. Come on, Ben, crap is an occupational hazard for you boys." That's not discriminatory! That's a fact. Everything else? Yeah, sounds kind of discriminatory. [Daily Mail]
