Newly wed lesbian funny lady Ellen DeGeneres appeared on The Tonight Show on Tuesday and took some time to urge voters to vote against Proposition 8, the ballot measure aiming to overturn California's gay marriage. Taking aim at those people raising millions to fight same-sex love, Ellen remarks: I look at the people who are losing their homes and they're foreclosing – and people in Texas who have lost homes… There are so many people that need money right now – and if you’re raising millions of dollars – give it to those people, please because you don’t need to promote hate. Host Jay Leno agrees that it's an unnecessary battle and points out that the sky in Massachusetts hasn't fallen since they passed gay marriage. It's so true. |
» Exciting Economics
Comedian Jay Leno, who supported gay marriage in West Hollywood last night, had this to say about same-sex bups: "The nice thing about gay marriage is you have TWO people excited about the wedding. In straight marriages, only one person is excited. Gay marriage, both persons are excited. But you know what's so funny to me, it's how people miss out on the economic benefits just in terms of catering and flowers and planning. The services that come with it. I see all the companies that have benefited from gay travel. …It just seems like common sense. Gas is four bucks a gallon. For me to worry about what Larry and Bob are doing seems sort of ridiculous." [Inside SoCal] |

In light of Jay Leno's "gay face" scandal, The Sword put together a video history of actor Ryan Philllippe's queer One Life To Live character, who definitely had his fair share of longing, oh-so-pained glances. We've included young Billy coming out to his father. It's epitome of homo histrionics. |

The authors investigated the role of homosexual arousal in exclusively heterosexual men who admitted negative affect toward homosexual individuals … The men were exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual, and lesbian videotapes, and changes in penile circumference were monitored. They also completed an Aggression Questionnaire … Both groups exhibited increases in penile circumference to the heterosexual and female homosexual videos. Only the homophobic men showed an increase in penile erection to male homosexual stimuli. The groups did not differ in aggression. Homophobia is apparently associated with homosexual arousal that the homophobic individual is either unaware of or denies. Blue insists she's not calling Leno lavender, although she does note that "there's 'something about Mary' that gives Leno enough of a woody to spout jokes that are insensitive, beyond poor taste, and just make him look out of step with the rest of culture…" Snap! |

For those of you who missed it, here's gay activist Wayne Besen talking gay with Bill O'Reilly. The gents squared off on Jay Leno's gay face scandal, an offense which O'Reilly simply can't comprehend. The Fox News man goes on to lament the death of diverse comedy: It looks to me in America that you can't ever make fun of any minority group. Ever. In any way. Anymore. In this country. I think that's where we are really. You can make fun of white Christian men. You can make fun of, famous people. But if you make fun of a minority, any minority… A national tragedy, indeed. O'Reilly also insists that he would never make fun of a social group. He will, however, fabricate stories about lesbian gangs, decry "gay apartheid," and generally spread gay panic, all of which are far more incendiary than Jay Leno's gag. |

What's with these late night jokesters? First we had Jay Leno's Ryan Phillippe moment. Now we hear that David Letterman had a laugh at pregnant trans man Thomas Beatie last night, including referring to him as an "androgynous freak show." There's a reason why we don't watch this shit… |
» Leno Apologizes
Comedian Jay Leno issued a short, stumpy apology for his Ryan Phillippe "gay look" remark: "In talking about Ryan's first role, I realize that what I said came out wrong. I certainly didn't mean any malice. I agree it was a dumb thing to say, and I apologize." So half-assed, but we wouldn't expect anything less - or is it more? [People] |
» Build Up.
The gay media watchdogs over at GLAAD called on boyish Jay Leno to apologize for his Ryan Phillippe "gay look" comment. And, because the scandal involves celebrities, the tabloids are getting involved. All signs are pointing to war. [Us] |

A survey out of England indicates that young men face more homophobic bullying than their female peers. This should come as no surprise. As musician Quentin Harris suggested this morning, there's more pressure on men not to seem weak. Yes, he was talking about the hip-hop scene, but we say that's a pretty universal rule: men are meant to act like men, and those who don't will face the consequences. Lawrence King's widely covered murder perfectly highlighted the perpetual assault on feminine men. What a perfect time, then, for homo hip-hop artist, Q-Boy, to come out against bullying. And, on an even bigger scale, the uproar against Jay Leno. |
» Gay Goes After Jay Leno
Avenue Q creator Jeff Whitty finds nothing funny about Jay Leno's homo-related punchlines. And in an effort to fight The Tonight Show host's rib-tickling, Whitty took to the pages of The Advocate to publish an open letter. A mere taste: "I know you know gay people, Mr. Leno. Are they just jokes to you, to be snickered at behind their backs? Despite the angry tenor of my letter, I suspect you're a better man than that…I'm tired of people like you." Whitty then tells Leno he needs to "cut it out" or he'll be really, really mad. |

Playwright Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q) is pissed off at Jay Leno's glib gay joke fodder, and we're right with him. The only way for macho jerks like Leno to realize it's not okay to make fun of gay people and profit at their expense is for us to tell them. And boy does Jeff tell him:
