The American Family Association last week claimed victory in a boycott against McDonald's, which the right-wing organization claimed endorsed same-sex rights because their vice-president of communications, a gay man Richard Ellis, donated to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. McDonald's was also once listed as a sponsor of a NGLCC event. The queer connections rubbed the AFA the wrong way, of course, but they're now insisting McDonald's crumbled under conservative pressure and has committed to their cause. McDonald's, however, refuses to agree - or disagree - with the AFA's take. |

Activists down in Louisville announced today that they plan on protesting two employees' anti-gay actions this summer. From the press release: In July, five visitors were waiting for their food to be prepared at McDonald’s when an employee behind the counter referred to them as “faggots” to another employee. The visitors asked to speak with a manager. As they waited for the supervisor on duty, the employee who had called them “faggots” started arguing with them, repeatedly calling them “faggots” in front of other customers and calling one of them a “cocksucker” and “bitch.” That incident no doubt pleases the American Family Association, which yesterday claimed victory in their own protest against McDonald's, whom they accused of being in cahoots with the queers. Full release after the jump… |

The Mississippi-based organization this year launched a campaign against McDonald's after the fast chain sponsored the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. And, as if that's not enough, the company's VP of communications, a gay man named Richard Ellis, sat on the Chamber's board and had donated $200,000 of his own money. The nerve! Nothing seemed to come of that protest - there was no national outrage, no golden arches fell - yet the AFA asserted today that they've won their hard-fought battle… |

Ryan Marlatt and Ryan Teddy Eggers were visiting McDonalds in Louisville, Kentucky with a few friends on July 26th when they were harassed by employees. They were called "faggots" and "cocksuckers" by several of the employees and management failed to do even issue them a simple refund. The guys took their case to the ALCU and are filing an official complaint with the city. "Although their complaints have gone unanswered by McDonald's, Louisville has a law that protects people from this kind of treatment from any business," said Christine Sun, a senior staff attorney with the ACLU. Earlier this month, an HIV+ man sued an Iowa McDonald's for firing him because of his status. |

Eeks! We were disgusted by Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble hawking Winston cigarettes, but we're straight up horrified by this early McDonald's commercial, which features the Today Show's Willard Scott playing the original Ronald, who's tempting a small child with his seemingly endless supply of hot beef. It's creepy, freaky and everything in-between! Check out the first very Ronald McDonald advertisement, after the jump. We would apologize for the poor quality, but we think it may be for the best. Hi-Def would simply be too frightening. |

The anti-gay non-profit began ramping up efforts last May, when they blasted the fast food chain's commitment to queer causes, like their sponsorship of pride parades. Not ones to be bullied, McDonald's executives refuses to back down, which has since spurred the AFA to up the ante a bit. Realizing that their members aren't the most intellectually evolved, the AFA has spelled out their beef with the beloved American restaurant: What the boycott of McDonald's IS NOT about You know, this could actually be a good thing. Well, for the AFA, at least. Sure, it's socially irresponsible, but think of all the weight they'll lose! Thanks, homosexuals! |

Social conservatives are gearing up for a McDonald's protest after the fast food giant pledged its support for the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Said a McDonald's rep: "McDonald's is indeed a Corporate Partner and Organizational Ally of NGLCC. Our vice president of U.S. communications, Richard Ellis, was recently elected to its board of directors." [Life Site] |

» McD Slogan Suicide
Horrible irony: "RIP advertising guru Paul Tilley. The man who came up with the McDonald's “I'm Lovin' It” slogan committed suicide. Obviously wasn't loving it enough, sadly." [Popbitch] |
