Obama and Ayers, a professor who once worked against the US government as a member of 60s radical group the Weather Underground, have worked together in Chicago, leading many conservatives - and Republican candidate John McCain - to claim Obama's sympathetic to the "domestic terrorist." Those arguments began to falter last week after politicians and pundits - and polls - criticized McCain's negative angle. Though Senator McCain has been easing up on the Ayers offensive, his supporters are hoping a new, gay line will scare voters away from Obama. |

Hoping to discuss the apparent disorganization within the Republican party, Maddow asked Frum to explain his "reservations" on the John McCain's campaign. Rather than addressing Maddow's question, Frum comes out with this: You were talking throughout the show about the matter of tone in our politics, and yet I think we are seeing an intensification of some of the ugliness of tone that has been a feature of American politics in the past 8 years. This show unfortunately is itself an example of that problem, with its heavy sarcasm and snearing and disregard for a lot of the substantive issues that are important… We're all going to have to do better than we've been doing, including in the past 40 minutes. Obviously caught off guard, Maddow wonders if Frum actually thinks her tone can be compared to some of the vitriol unleashing against Barack Obama. Slick, slimy Frum replies, "I don't think that's an important question. I think the question is, given the small plate of responsibility that you personally have, how do you manage that responsibility?" Maddow's not buying his bullshit and the two get into a debate on what Maddow calls the "false equivalence" that has saturated our political culture. For example, comparing McCain's involvement with the Keating Five to Obama's friendship with William Ayers. In the end, they agree to disagree: Frum prefers petrified discourse, while Maddow appreciates a little fun. Guess which side we took… Check out the video, after the jump… |

The Floridian Congressman has since resigned, come out and been cleared of any illegal wrong-doing, which means it's a perfect time for right-leaning journalist James Kirchick to come out and blast the left for addressing Foley's misdeeds in the first place. Though he describes Foley's online activities as "reprehensible," Kirchick wags a righteous finger at "democratic operatives" and other liberal activists who, he says, simply used Foley as a political pawn. The Congressman didn't deserve such malicious attention - rather, he needs our sympathy and understanding. Or something. |

It's getting hot in California! The activists with No on 8 - the group fighting Proposition 8, a ballot initiative aimed at overturning this year's gay marriage win - have called out their lawyers to take on this inflammatory commercial put out by the Yes on 8 side, also known as homophobic bigots looking to eliminate Americans' rights. |

In booking the airtime, not only did Obama throw Ben Silverman's future into turmoil by bumping the unwatched Knight Rider off its regular time slot, but he also pumped nearly $1 million into the coffers of each network. At NBC, he will pay $891,250 for the privilege, and at CBS he will spend $961,000. Those prices, of course, are ridiculously discounted… |

The Democratic presidential candidate's campaign today announced they've bought a half-hour slot on CBS' prime time schedule. Though there's no word on how much Obama spent on the time, he's obviously not worried - the Senator's reportedly in talks to sign up other networks, as well: The Obama campaign will air a half-hour primetime special on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. Well, we certainly won't be watching if it conflicts with the World Series. That would be Un-American! |

And remember how the groups enlisted Wanda Sykes and Hilary Duff to headline their first two television commercials? Well, here they are! Ms. Sykes is up top, Duff's down below. |

Palin continued, saying Couric's questions were unfair and that she would have preferred to discuss all the stupid fucking lies she's been trained to believe are the truth, because she's the goddamn Manchurian candidate. Video after the jump. |
