President Bush hasn't always been our favorite person, but the politico warmed our hearts a bit today when he addressed the nation to publicly congratulate Barack Obama on his White House win. Said Bush: It will be a stirring sight to watch President Obama, his wife Michelle, and their beautiful girls step through the doors of the White House. I know millions of Americans will be overcome with pride at this inspiring moment that so many have awaited so long. I know Senator Obama’s beloved mother and grandparents would have been thrilled to watch the child they raised ascend the steps of the Capitol - and take his oath to uphold the Constitution of the greatest nation on the face of the earth. What a gent - and we actually mean that! |

Joe Biden avoided dancing on a recent episode of Ellen, but Barack Obama wasn't so lucky during a remote taping for the show yesterday. |

A genealogical study has found that silver fox newsman Anderson Cooper's great-great-grandfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt, once owned Michelle Obama's great-great-grandfather, Jim Robinson, on "Friendfield," a 3,000-acre plantation in Georgetown, South Carolina. |

In addition to highlighting her husband's support for the Ryan White Act and fighting the Federal Marriage Amendment, Mrs. Obama reiterates a message familiar to voters, especially gay Democrats: we shouldn't accept the world as it is, but we should work toward the world as it should be - a cornerstone quote in many of her stump speeches. And, in fact, that idea's the title for her essay - "The World As It Should Be." Obama concludes the piece by asking concerned citizens to join the fight and work the streets for Obama's campaign. I know we can do this. But we can’t do it alone. We have only a matter of days until voter registration deadlines pass in many states. We need our supporters to become active volunteers. Go door to door. Work the phones. Drive to battleground states. Help us get out the vote. Sheesh! Who knew democracy was so needy!? |
» The Best Dressed
Michelle Obama is one of People Magazine's 10 Best Dressed of 2008. The magazine calls her "Classic and Confident." Also on the list are Fergie, Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Heidi Klum, Rihanna, Eva Mendes, and Charlize Theron. To be nice to Sarah Palin, they recognized her for her changing fashions. "(She) is causing a run on rimless glasses, peep-toe pumps and sexy secretary-like updos across the country," People says. On Michele Obama - I'm excited for her to be fully embraced by the gay community and agree that she'll eventually be a gay icon. Being one of People's Best Dressed won't hurt that. |

» Twins…
Rosie O'Donnell does not approve of former colleague Elisabeth Hasselbeck's attacks on Michelle Obama. So, in a bit of revenge, she penned one of her famously disorganized blog poems. And, for once, this one makes sense - O'Donnell says Hasselbeck and Republican running mate Sarah Palin are "identical twins" who "hunt in high heels." She then urges readers to "take pause." Appearing on behalf of potential first lady and camp hero Cindy McCain, The View host Elisabeth Hasselbeck took a shot at Michelle Obama, suggesting the Democratic candidate's wife has something to hide: Cindy came into our hair and make-up room fresh as can be. And unlike another wife of a political candidate who shall remain nameless, she didn't come with a list of topics that we weren't allowed to touch. Nope. That's because she has nothing to hide. We'd go off on Hasselbeck, but we're sure her co-hosts will do a better job of it. |

The potential first lady first hit up a fund raiser thrown by CAA honcho Bryan Lourd and meant to bring in some of the West Coast's gay elite, like Tom Ford, and their money. Then, once that was complete, Obama headed on over to Sam Jackson's Beverly Hills home, where she spoke to the likes of Magic Johnson and Denzel Washington. The speeches, according to Patrick Range McDonald, were almost identical, but the Lourd event consisted of some more gay-themed issues, like DOMA and Don't Ask, Don't Tell. A shift in subject should be expected, because one tends to suit their topic to their audience. If you're talking to the gays, you better talk gay. |

Michelle Obama will soon be campaigning amongst the gay mafia and Hollywood's elite: "…Obama is headed to Hollywood to court gay and lesbian support. Tom Ford is among the expected co-hosts of a Sept. 3 benefit at the home of CAA agent Bryan Lourd. The same night, she'll head over to Samuel L. Jackson's place for another fund-raiser…" [NYDN] |
