Mitt Romney's master plan failed. The former Massachusetts governor hoped to revamp his image for the right wing, but an overwhelming amount of Evangelicals prefer Iowa winner Mike Huckabee

More than eight in 10 Huckabee supporters said they are born again or evangelical Christians, compared to less than half of Romney's. Nearly two-thirds of Huckabee backers also said it was very important that their candidate share their religious beliefs, compared to about one in five of Romney's.

Surprisingly, only half of Huckabee's supporters consider themselves "conservative", as do half of Romney lovers.

Meanwhile, 60% of Huckabee caucusers say "values" are important in picking a president. They do not, however, have much faith in Huckabee's White House odds: "…Fewer than one in 20 said they thought he had the best chance of wining [sic] in November."

"His true colors...are quite dark and intolerant."

Wayne Besen ain't happy with Mike Huckabee's recent Meet The Press appearance. The gay activist released the following statement:

It is alarming that a man with such backward views is a serious contender for the GOP nomination. [Ed. note: But not surprising]

In the real world, people either act on their sexuality in healthy ways or act like Ted Haggard and Sen. Larry Craig – a tragic lesson that seems lost on Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee should explain why he is freely associating with known extremists and how this squares with his professed sunny and optimistic vision for America. Furthermore, the comparison of homosexuality to pedophilia and necrophilia is as ignorant as it is offensive. As the primaries approach, Mike Huckabee is beginning to show his true colors - and they are quite dark and intolerant.

These are all true statements, but also endear him to social conservatives.

Mike Huckabee's a manipulative bitch:

Mike Huckabee is holding a press conference right now in which he was supposed to unveil a new negative ad against arch rival Mitt Romney.

But Mr. Huckabee came to the press conference and announced he’d had a change of heart and would not be broadcasting the ad after all.

He then broadcast it for a room crammed with reporters, photographers and television cameras.

Way to take the high ground, Huck.

Evil Trio Urge Followers To Vote Huckabee?

pastorshuck-1.jpg
Acclaimed anti-gay activists Rick Scarborough, Dr. Tim LaHaye and Dr. Michael Farris seem to have joined forces to support Mike Huckabee. From The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder:

Pastor Rick Scarborough is hosting a conference call with Iowa pastors to discuss the caucus… joining him are Dr. Tim "Left Behind" LaHaye and Dr. Michael "Home School" Farris.

All three are committed supporters of Mike Huckabee. An e-mail sent to Iowa pastors advertising the call doesn't mention Huckabee — that wouldn't be legal — but does say that pastors "have a duty" to keep their congregants "informed" and to lead them to "participate" in the caucuses.

Farris has been a senior unpaid adviser to Huckabee from day one and was key in helping to organize the families of home schoolers to attend the Republican straw poll in Ames last summer.

"Incomprehensible...Out of Touch With Reality...Disturbing."

huckflaghand.jpg
We haven't seen someone get reamed this hard since Backdoor Ram Jammers 5! The late Ryan White's lawyers absolutely skewer presidential candidate Mike Huckabee over his HIV/AIDS quarantine comments, which he refuses to recant. Here's the meatiest bit:

Ryan White's story was the No. 1 news story, and exercising his civil right to be in the classroom with his fellow students and the education of the public on how AIDS was transmitted were the other issues.

Ryan's story was also the No. 2 most-covered news story in 1986.

Evidently Mr. Huckabee did not read a newspaper in 1985 or 1986.

It seems to us Mr. Huckabee reaffirmation of the statement he made in 1992, that AIDS patients should be isolated, is incomprehensible.

That this man, who is so out of touch with reality, could run for president of the United States is more than disturbing.

That's going to hurt in the morning.

It's A Perverse Spectrum

huck1-111.jpg
"No way is he saying that homosexuality is like having sex with dead people," said a senior Mike Huckabee adviser yesterday. Joe Carter scrambled to clarify Huckabee's comments comparing homosexuality and necrophilia. The Republican presidential hopeful once wrote,

It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations—from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia.

Adviser Carter spoke with TPM to tell the world that, no, Mke Huckabee does not think that necrophiliacs and gays are the same. Not entirely, at least:

He's not equating homosexuality with necrophilia. He's saying there's a range of aberrant behavior. He considers homosexuality aberrant, but that's at one end of the spectrum. Necrophilia is at the other end.

No way is he saying that homosexuality is like having sex with dead people. That's not it at all.

He was describing behavior. He's not casting judgment on the people themselves. His point is, the culture is becoming more accepting of aberrant behaviors.

So, while we're not as nasty as corpse fuckers, we're still queer.

It Just Keeps Piling On!

huck1-11.jpg
Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee's anti-gay past just won't quit! Mother Jones digs up some of Huckabee's unsavory comments from his 1998 book, Kids Who Kill:

In lamenting the "cultural conflicts" besetting the country, he wrote, "Abortion, environmentalism, AIDS, pornography, drug abuse, and homosexual activism have fragmented and polarized our communities."

Why was he lumping environmentalism with activities he considered sinful? He did not explain further. A few pages later, Huckabee complained, "It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations—from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia."

Alright, we understand the gays have a number of organizations and policies behind them, but can someone please tell us who's fighting for the rights of necrophiliacs?

Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee apparently doesn't care about the Jewish, Muslim and other non-Christian voters.

Note the cross hovering behind Huckabee's head.

Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee popped into Larry King Live last night. And, as happens, the queers came up in conversation.

With regard to Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Huckabee said that he'll let the military work that out. Meanwhile, the former Arkansas Governor again defended military officials and again defended his HIV/AIDS quarantine comments:

That was 1992 — 15 years ago. And I know some would say but we knew it then. But, you know, I talked to medical doctors back then and even who have said this to me now, we said we knew, but we weren't absolutely, positively sure. And the information we were getting was from our government. And, frankly, a lot of people who weren't trusting our government than anymore than are trusting it now.

We wonder why…
