» Have Faith…
Gay activists were rightly that Barack Obama's pledge to expand faith-based funding would benefit homophobic initiatives. The campaign tells Pam Spaulding, however, that Senator Obama would not tolerate such activity: "A source with Senator Obama's campaign has now confirmed to Pam's House Blend that under no circumstances will funds from the program will be granted to FBOs for proselytizing or reparative therapy. Under the Obama plan, MCC congregations, LGBT-welcoming Methodist and Unitarian congregations, and other affirming churches will have access to funds to do much-needed work in communities large and small of great importance — HIV/AIDS education, for instance, relief efforts, etc." [PHB] |
» "Symposium."
The American Civil Liberties Union invited activists, pundits and media types - like Pam Spaulding, Rachel Maddow and John Aravosis - to write a few words on gay pride. And, for some reason, they asked our editor, who wrote a surprisingly earnest piece. Here's but a taste: "When I think of gay pride, I don’t think of gay people. Okay, well, that’s not true. I do think of gay people… But, more than all those communities, that proverbial melting pot, I see America: a nation built on the revolutionary idea that citizens should live as individuals, free of tyranny." As part of their effort to include homo-journos, the DNC accredited two explicitly gay blogs: Pam's House Blend, which is penned by a black lesbian from North Carolina, and a New York-based blog: Towleroad, which is run by a white man. And the latter has Bil Browning over at fellow applicant Bilerico not only a bit bitter, but downright confused: Towleroad is not known for racial diversity, trans inclusion, or its lesbian audience. It is a site for wealthy gay white men - the HRC demographic. Ouch! |

• Zoe Leonard's 1992 "I Want A President" still resonates. • Did Canada's New Democratic Party drop a lawyer for being trans? • HX editor Brandon Voss talks gay with Friday Night Lights' Kyle Chandler for The Advocate. The gays apparently urged Chandler to try the theatrical arts. Figures… |

What A Brave, Brave Man...
Well, the good man spent some time chatting with journo Michelangelo Signorile last week. Always one for a scintillating scandal - and nailing hypocritical politicos - Pam Spaulding posted the audio, part of which we've posted here. If you want to hear the all about Craig's paranoid, bitchy gay ways, we suggest you head on over and give them a listen. It gets way juicy in part two… |

• More on the gays as the GOP's "new black". • Larry Craig gets his wish: Minnesota sets hearing for September 26th - four days before his "intended" resignation. • Kanye West's a cry baby. (And has a point.) |

Sure, she takes the piss out of anti-gay activists and may refer to anal sex or some other homo activity, but Kathy (not pictured, in younger years) ain't a dirty birdy like some people. Apparently, however, Panera Bread thinks she's a nasty girl. The journo recounts a recent trip to the national chain: I got my delicious chicken strawberry something or other salad and connected to Panera's wireless network. Clicked on my link to the blog (yes, I was procrastinating) and got a message from something called Sonic Wall telling me my site had been blocked. That stinks, Kathy. Now that you've been labeled a pornographer, perhaps you should embrace it by posting some titties and willies? [Correction: In our haste, we wrote that Panera banned Pam Spaulding's blog, when we should have said Panera banned Birmingham Blues. We've decided to keep Pam Spaulding's baby picture, however, because it's so damn cute!] |
