Mauro Del Vecchio's like Italy's very own General Peter Pace! No, he didn't call gays immoral, as former Joint Chiefs Chairman Pace so famously declared last year, the former NATO commander did voice his objection to homos in the military:

I respect any legitimate and lawful choice by a person, but I believe that in a structure like the army, where activities are always carried out together, it is advisable not to declare or reveal one's homosexuality.

Also in my career I have encountered homosexual incidents and I acted in such a way that these situations would not happen again and those involved were relocated and employed in other areas.

Del Vecchio makes sure to mention, however, that he "never dismissed anybody from the army for being gay." He just shipped them off to lands unknown..

» DNC Debated Peter Pace Response

Democratic National Committee's press man and Chief of Staff debated how to respond to Peter Pace's "immoral" comments about homosexuality: "In the protracted e-mail exchange obtained by the Blade, [Damien] LaVera and [Leah] Daughtry advocate for sending a statement only to reporters working for gay press and keeping any mention of it off the DNC web site. They also oppose sending the statement to mainstream news wires. That way, the DNC can have it both ways — placating the gays with a toothless statement while ensuring that any faintly pro-gay statements don’t gain traction or visibility in mainstream media." Jeez, can't any of our political parties just take a fucking stand for equality, justice and civility?! [Washington Blade]

General Peter Pace may be gone, but his distasteful gay opinions stand strong in the army:

The Army, Navy and Air Force unwittingly advertised for recruits on a website for gays, who are barred from military service if they are open about their sexual orientation.

When informed Tuesday by USA Today that they were advertising on GLEE.com, a networking website for gay professionals, recruiters expressed surprise and said they would remove the job listings.

"This is the first I've heard about it," said Maj. Michael Baptista, advertising branch chief for the Army National Guard, which will spend $6.5 million on Internet recruiting this year. "We didn't knowingly advertise on that particular website," which he said does not "meet the moral standards" of the military.

Oh, please! GLEE's so tame. We'd love to hear what Baptista has to say about us.

General Peter Pace garnered gay ink yet again yesterday. The outgoing Joint Chiefs Chairman faced off against Senator Tom Harkin, who blasted the general's March remarks: "I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral".

During a Congressional hearing this week, Harkin called Pace's comments "hurtful" and gave the military man some time to clear his anti-gay name. Though he maintained homosexuality's so-called immorality, Pace did concede that gay men and women serve integral roles in our military. "Are there wonderful Americans who happen to be homosexual serving in the military? Yes."

Anti-War Protesters Call Pace "Bigot"

Peter Pace must be a slow learner. The soon-to-be former Joint Chiefs of Staff again took some time to wag a moralistic finger at the gays:

Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, caused a stir at a Senate hearing Wednesday when he repeated his view that gay sex is immoral and should not be condoned by the military.

"Are there wonderful Americans who happen to be homosexual serving in the military? Yes," he told the Senate Appropriations Committee during a hearing focused on the Pentagon's 2008 war spending request.

"We need to be very precise then, about what I said wearing my stars and being very conscious of it," he added. "And that is, very simply, that we should respect those who want to serve the nation but not through the law of the land, condone activity that, in my upbringing, is counter to God's law."

Anti-war protesters raised their voices to call Pace a bigot, while Senator Tom Harkin called Pace's comments "hurtful". When Pace noted that the military code forbids homosexuality, Harkin said, "Well, then, maybe we should change that."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid grabbed headlines yesterday when he referred to former Joint Chiefs Chair General Peter Pace as "incompetent". Some people suggested Politico misquoted Reid, but now the transcript of the tape's been released and the truth comes out. And so do some of Reid's thoughts on homophobic Surgeon General Nominee, Dr. James Holsinger and (allegedly) corrupt Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales.

The 20 most rockin' moments in gay rock history!

Barack Obama has something to say about Surgeon General nominee and noted homophobe, Dr. James Holsinger. And it ain't nice:

America’s top doctor should be a doctor for all Americans, and so I have serious reservations about nominating someone who would inject his own anti-gay ideology into critical decisions about the health and well-being of our nation," Obama said this morning. "As with other nominees, I will listen to the testimony of Dr. James Holsinger, but this Administration must know that the United States Surgeon General’s office is no place for bigotry or ideology that would trump sound science and good judgment.

Word. Fellow Democrat and presidential candidate Christopher Dodd also voiced his concern, "I fear that Dr. Holsinger's previous comments and actions will prevent him from representing each and every individual." Now, how long until Hillary Clinton says something?

Homophobe General To Be Replaced

It's a banner day for the gays. First Isaiah Washington got booted from Grey's Anatomy. Now, Joint Chiefs Chief General Peter Pace - who infamously referred to gays as immoral - has been replaced in the Pentagon. From Think Progress:

Ha-ha, that's what you get for saying:

As an individual, I would not want [acceptance of gay behavior] to be our policy, just like I would not want it to be our policy that if we were to find out that so-and-so was sleeping with somebody else's wife, that we would just look the other way, which we do not. We prosecute that kind of immoral behavior.
