» No Go In Portugal.

We may be celebrating Connecticut's gay marriage win, but things aren't so peachy in Portugal: "Portugal's parliament rejected a proposal on Friday to allow gay marriage, sparking anger among gays who say they face discrimination in the conservative Catholic country… Outside parliament, about thirty gays protested by staging two mock marriages. 'I am here because there are citizens who are full citizens in their duties but not citizens in their rights and that is a very serious mistake in a democracy," Joana, a woman who married her partner, told Reuters Television." Portuguese politicians will soon sit down to discuss the ins-and-outs of gay marriage. And though more progressive parties are actively supporting rewriting the nation's laws to allow same-sex nuptials, they have divergent views on just how many rights gays should be granted.

Both the Left Party and the Green Party agree that the current hetero-centric marriage law's wording violates the constitution, hoping to change the definition to "a solemnly formalized meeting of wills between two people who intend to build a family in full communion of life."

The Green Party's willing to allow gay people to "build a family," but, for some reason, draws the line at adoption…

Elton John reportedly had a royal breakdown after Prince Harry and Prince William's Concert for Diana. The singer got into with a police officer who ordered him to walk to the VIP area, rather than drive. John allegedly screamed,

Get out of my fucking way. Don't you know who I am? I've been working all fucking day and I need to get to my fucking dressing room.

Obviously Sir Elton is no lady. Nor does he get special privilege: he eventually walked.

Portuguese-born footballer Cristiano Ronaldo took some time off kicking balls for Manchester United to spend a few hours kicking it with some friends.

Unfortunately for Ronaldo, a pesky paparazzo came along for the holiday. Fortunately for you, we've included the pictures.

We're especially fond of the one picking his teeth. Very humanizing.

Trans Singer's Style 'Cliks'

lucash.jpg
Music and style have always gone hand-in-hand. David Bowie helped bring glam to the mainstream. Kurt Cobain's greasy hair and seemingly unstylish self gave us grunge. And now rockers The Cliks and their well-suited image may change the way people look at female fashion - and gender.

For this installment of The Style Issue, we sat down with The Cliks lead singer and founder, Lucas Silveira, a trans man who knows a thing or two about looking good.

Portugese Lesbians

Following in the sensible shoes of Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen Degeneres, two women in Portugal tried to get married in the heavily Roman Catholic country. Though the women expected to be turned down, they still decided to try because, you know, it’s the right thing to do.

The couple is basing their case on Portugal's 1975 constitution, which bans sexual discrimination, arguing that two women have the same right to marry as a man and a woman. Portugal's civil code, however, bans same-sex marriages.

The couple will receive the formal response to their marriage request on Thursday but the women's lawyer, Luis Grave Rodrigues, said he was sure they would be denied.

Even though the girls will most likely be denied, the media attention surrounding their case is surely a good thing, especially considering neighboring Spain’s pro-gay stance. And afterall, the capitol of Portugal ain’t called Lisbon for nothin’.
