And You Can, Too!

We're not sure if you've heard, but it's Valentine's Day: the darkest day of the year for many of you single folk. Rather than offering tales of love (barf) or romance tips (like we'd share), we've decided to feature an interview with a man who dedicates life - and his passion - to enabling intergenerational relationships. Love does, after all, come in many shapes, sizes and ages.

It all started when former holistic therapist Chris Turner noticed a gaping hole in the world of internet dating. Most sites skewed toward the twink coupling, while older men - daddies, if you will - and their admirers were left out in the technological cold. In an effort to fill this void, Turner founded Daddy Hunt, a personals site for older men and younger men looking for love, lust or just plain sex. Turner even found his own man - author Armistead Maupin - on the site.

With 130,000 members ranging from 18 to the late-90s, Daddy Hunt's more than just an online cruising ground, says Turner, but a "political statement" against "mainstream" aesthetic. Read what else Turner had to say, after the jump.

» Gay Divorce Law For RI?

Rhode Island politico Gordon Fox knows that love doesn't last. That's why the House Majority leader will propose legislation allowing gay couples divorce. The move comes after a judge refused to dissolve a lesbian couples Massachusetts marriage last year. Gay group Marriage Equality Rhode Island also plans to introduce legislation expanding domestic partnership laws. [Boston Globe]

Someone alert the anti-gay activists! San Francisco-based Rockway Institute research claims that same-sex relationships are healthier than their hetero counterparts:

A series of research studies has revealed that those in same-sex relationships have an increased likelihood of better family and marital relations then those in a heterosexual relationship.

Executive Director of the Rockway Institute Robert-Jay Green said that flexibility of gender roles and the equal division of parenting and household tasks results in more same-sex couples having healthier relationships than heterosexuals.

Green claims there's "greater equality" because gays and lesbians have an easier time overcoming traditional gender roles. We're suspicious, because we know all sorts of homos who play hausfrau for their working men.

MTV Drunk On Ratings

"Bisexual" babe Tila Tequila won't go hungry in 2008. MTV has decided to produce another season of her reality dating show, A Shot of Love With Tila Tequila.

From Variety:

In addition to renewing "Shot," MTV has inked a multiseries production commitment with series exec producer Sally Ann Salsano and her 495 Prods. banner. She'll develop, supervise and consult on MTV-branded programming as part of the pact.

The cabler will produce 10 new episodes of "Shot at Love," with the segs slated to premiere in the spring. Format will once again have straight men and lesbians vying for the heart of Tila Tequila.

The previous season ended with Tequila picking a man as her mate.

We're assuming it didn't work out. Or MTV decided 6 million viewers are more important than one cable-based romance.

Two Arizonan queers clearly don't respect traffic laws:

Two gay men who were in an argument at Phoenix's Metro Center Mall risked killing themselves and motorists as they took their fight to the I-17 Freeway at rush hour. One of them had reportedly threatened to commit suicide. They were arrested shortly thereafter.

How long until Michael Savage turns this into some gay plot to run straights off the road and spread mayhem?

The Out 100's proving to be the event that wouldn't end: kind of like 9/11, only fun.

The gay glossy just sent over this video of designer Marc Jacobs from last Friday's big event. Watch, listen and coo as Jacobs discusses his Out cover, people's reactions to said Out cover and why he will continue to bless the world with his rip-roaring physique.

Check out what Jacobs has to say about relationships and his gayest moment to-be, after the jump. Hint: it won't involve pink feathers.

Startling Statistics About Tough Love

maingif.jpeg
While some gay people would like to think they're more evolved than straight folk, a new study proves we're pretty bloody similar:

It may not be called spousal abuse because gay marriage is still not considered legal in most states, but according to a new study in the Journal of Urban Health: Bulletin of The New York Academy of Medicine, gay men experience partner abuse at almost the same rate as women in heterosexual relationships.

It’s a little documented area of abuse, but this new study, which looks at victims of intimate partner violence, found that 32 percent of gay and bisexual men have been abused by their partners.

That's so not cool. If you or someone you know has been getting smacked around, we suggest you check out the the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs. It won't hurt a bit…

Bush Inadvertently Res-Erects Ancient Tradition

It's a pederastic party over in Afghanistan. Unlike the Greeks, for whom pederasty played an educational role, men in Afghanistan are engaging adolescent men for dances, among other things.

“Some men enjoy playing with dogs, some with women. I enjoy playing with boys,” said Allah Daad, a one-time mujahedin commander in the northern Afghan province of Kunduz.

He is one of a growing number of men involved in what is known as “bacha baazi”— literally, “boy-play” — a time-honoured tradition, deplored by human rights activists and clerics, that is seeing a revival in the relatively secure north of Afghanistan.

The boys are kept by powerful older men, made to dance at special parties, and often sexually abused afterwards. Known as “bacha bereesh” - literally, “beardless boys”, they are under 18, with 14 the preferred age.

While these "beardless boys perform a social function for the men, they're not getting anything out of it except for material goods and exploitation.

But Can They Make It Work?

cast012-1.jpg
It's prison wedding bells up in Canada, where two convicted killers are getting hitched. Now, we 100% support gay marriage in and out of prison, but we're not entirely convinced these two thought it through:

David Bedard, 22, is serving a 10 year sentence for involuntary manslaughter while his partner Sony Martin, 26, is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder and is ineligible for parole before 2020.

"It won't be any different from any civil wedding," said Lucette L'Esperance, assistant warden at the institution. "They will marry at the chapel before a Quebec court judge."

The wedding will be the usual 10-minute ceremony, but the two, who currently live in separate cell blocks, will continue to do so and will get no special treatment.

So, they'll be living in separate cell blocks, one gets out in less than ten years while the other may be locked away for life, and they're more than likely to live completely separate lives. Actually, that sounds like it could be the perfect marriage…
