Conservatives absolutely adore the late Ronald Reagan, which explains why Republicans Against 8 invoke the Gipper in their new ad against Proposition 8, a ballot measure looking to overturn California's gay marriage.

The minute-long spot first highlights how Reagan, while Governor of California, opposed to the Briggs Initiative - a measure that would have banned gays from teaching in the Golden State's public schools. That pro-gay stance, says the narrator, can be directly compared to current California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's pledge to vote against Proposition 8.

If Reagan can't woo the right, no one can!

Hoping to sway the women's vote in California, pro-gay group Republicans Against 8 today released an ad highlighting the GOP's commitment to equality throughout history.

The commercial, called "Freedom Is A Republican Value," focusses on President Nixon's fight for athletic equality on universities and Reagan's appointment of Sandra Day O'Connor, the commercial asserts the Republican party has always dedicated itself to equal access.

James Dobson totally has a crush on potential vice-president Sarah Palin.

Dobson, the right-wing leader who once swore he wouldn't vote for "centrist" John McCain, has been absolutely gushing over Palin's place on the Republican ticket.

In fact, Dobson says he hasn't been this excited since the days of Ronald Reagan.

Speaking with [radio host Dennis] Prager, Dr. Dobson said he now feels the same excitement he felt when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated.

"That was one of the most exciting days of my life, because everything that we had hoped for and been working for had come to pass," he told Prager. "I feel very much that way today. Maybe that�s an overstatement. Maybe time won't validate it, but this is a very exciting and encouraging day for conservatives and pro-family activists. I am just very, very pleased."

We have a general rule: whenever Dobson's happy, we're unhappy. Such emotion from such a backward man can never be good.

The Republican party lost one of its most treasured figures this weekend. North Carolina Senator and noted civil rights foe Jesse Helms died Friday at the age of 86.

Mitt Romney and his campaign staff do not appreciate the Log Cabin Republican's anti-Mitt advert.

After viewing the commercial - which blasts the presidential candidates capricious positions on gun control and abortion policies - Romney aide Kevin Madden barked:

As Governor Romney has repeatedly made clear, like many other Republicans including Ronald Reagan, he wasn't always pro-life. Governor Romney has said he was wrong and hopes he never stops learning from his mistakes or trying to do what's right.

This personal, negative attack was launched and paid for by a group recognized as having Mayor Giuliani as their ‘favorite’ candidate. Governor Romney supports a federal marriage amendment and so it makes sense that a national gay rights group would attack him. The advertisement misrepresents Governor Romney’s courage to admit that he had been wrong on this issue and the fact that he is proud of his strong record of defending the sanctity of life.

Romney's "courage"? Um, right. We don't think "courage" when we reflect on Romney's repeated flip-flops. Rather, we think "patronizing," "lying" and "despicable". But that's just us…

America's plurality voting system limits voter's options. With one man and one vote, the man or woman with the most votes wins an election, regardless of whether they receive a majority. In such an environment, voters tend to vote tactically. That is, they lean heavily in one direction or the other. There's no middle ground.

The religious right's well aware of this democratic flaw. Taking advantage of changing political tides, these "value voters" used tactical voting to elevate the GOP to heavenly heights - with hellish results.
